Los cronocrímenes (2007)
A Must See film.
This movie proves what Hollywood does not practice. A great movie (like this one) does not need: famous name actors, good-looking/sexy protagonists, stupendous sets, expensive special effects, gratuitous violence, & violent shocks to be a successful, entertaining, and provocative movie, which this is in every respect. All it needs is good writing, capable direction, plausibility in terms of premises and plot turns, and decent acting. This has it all. And it's a great movie. The actors are all average looking. The sets look like a normal environment. The special effects are nothing special at all. And yet, there is not a dull moment in this extraordinarily good film. Saw it at the Cleveland International Film Festival this year. It stood out from the crowd as an exceptional film
On the Beach (1959)
Has a certain scene been removed?
Having first seen this movie in the early '60's, and now just recently on Turner Classic Movies, I seem to recall a scene when I first saw the movie that was not extant when I saw it today. That scene occurs when the sailor in the radiation suit leaves the sub to find the source of the Morse code. At some point on his sojourn, I REMEMBER him seeing a woman in a summer frock & hat seated at a table from afar. Coming up from behind to meet her, her hair flying in the wind, he is horrified to see when close that she is a skeleton with the hair & clothing still on. Does anyone else remember this movie scene way back when? It certainly wasn't in the TV movie I saw. With what they show on TV these days, I can't see any reasons for it to be excised.
Rhinestone (1984)
Dolly: big as ever! Sly: short on talent, if not on screen!
How do they get all the rest of the cast to walk in ruts to make all 5'4" of Sly Stone look like a normal height? What's that troll doing with sweet-faced Dolly anyway? His nose is the only thing bigger than her chest. A miserable excuse for a comedy, and a fine vehicle for proving that Sly has NO comedic acting ability. Bring back "The Lords Of Flatbush", his true element! What a short sack of protoplasm he is! And now, to fill out the 10 line requirement for a review, I will close with a limerick:
There once was a so-called "actor" named Sly.
A short ugly plug of a guy. His ability was smaller Than the cast, all taller Before seeing it again, I'd rather die!
