Nasty (2024)
Good premise and quite entertaining
It is a rather good movie, well documented and presents some unique footage and insights into the life of Ilie Nastase, one of the world'sbest tennis players. What the film lacks in depth, full documentary and historic details (as a follow thorugh on his journey from youth to old age) it fills in with meaningful expert opinions from various experts and other players, his own remarks and amazing cinematography selected from a wide range of archive footages. It could go more in detail and provide some perspectives but it is still a movie worth the time and quite a pleasant experience overall that will leave you satisfied.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
A completely failed interesting dystopia
While the series introduce an interesting dystopian world, having truly interesting roles, power dynamics, archetypes, and many thought provoking aspects which would be worth exploring (excluding how it was interpreted in various politically-driven circles as representing today's society - since it cannot and will not), the series fail miserably. This can be attributed to the fact that the main protagonist is very poorly represented. Apart of her facial or general features representing something that, if broadcasted 24/7, Would truly reduce population due to their contraceptive effect, sheIs mostly a monolith of nothingness or even weird, forced and sometimes truly repulsing gestures, mimics, expressions etc. The effect is that you end up bored or skipping those scenes, as they turn your stomach upside down, while making you wish to see her disappear from the story altogether (instead of emphasizing to her dramas). Furthermore, there are numerous other cast members, including the "antithetical wife", that feel natural and whom you start to enjoy better, or even root for them. Overall, as the story focuses on emotions, drama and connection to unfold, with small action jumps that pendulum back to the start, it makes is unbearable to watch and a dull presentation.
Hellboy (2019)
It's acceptable
It has nothing to do with the rest of the franchise. Actually it's messing the timeline altogether and makes no sense in connection to them. Some of the monsters and ideas are good and could've made a great side story but otherwise the movies has oke acting, taking into account cringy costumes, trees and effects (you can tell the plastic apart). Scenery is well done but other than that it fells like a rushed movie with an acceptable script, action and characters but nothing on the hellboy level.
Genesis (2018)
Amazing... if you lived in a cage for decades and this is the first color film you ever see
The story is meh, the characters are meh, the idea is meh (with a lot of potential though), the acting is meh, the effects are meh, the music is meh... actually it should be named MEH - the story of people running from gas and some uprising robots that had enough of humanity's sh$t. The movie is great to watch only if you want to suicide yourself mentally. They should have donated the budget to a charity, made a cartoon, drank a beer afterward and the world would have been a far better place than making us lose our time in hopes that the first 10 minutes will somehow be replicated afterward and that it might still be good. Actually is is awesome if you have no ideas left on how to punish your kids anymore, tie them to a chair and make them endure this movie, that surely will teach them a thing or two.
Si shi qing chun (2018)
Worth your time
It is, overall, an experience in itself more than a movie. It's something you take in, interpret, analyze through your experiences and filter with your own feelings. It's entirely up to you if this movie is something you digest afterwards for a few hours wondering about your life as a whole or just something you ate popcorn to. In both cases it is extremely good. The lessons that are in it are numerous and varied enough to please everyone and it's auite easy to identify with something from the movie, be it a character, a scenery, a feeling, a phrase, and the list can go on. On purpose it is called flavour(S) in the plural form because to everyone there is something different to be taken out of it. This anime is about love, family, passion, dreams, and everything else that makes us human. It's a nice perspective on life, set in short stories that are pleasant on their own and connect, covering up all the issues someone might face, with characters that are really nice and a good development. It's similar to Life Itself in these aspects. For those who want to just chill out it's great too, the animation is beautiful (not stunning) but well done, the music and scenery is extremely absorbing, good play and twists, quite easy to follow up, and a really well made movie overall that should fill up and afernoon and make you feel good afterwards. So give it a shot no matter what!
