Manchurian Tiger (2021)
A less poetic representation of Northeastern China that I may appears.
I've been living in China for more than 5 years and I've visited Dongbei region. The movie represents in a quite realistic way many common social problems of the region. I appreciate the lack of empty dialogues and propaganda ( common elements in nowadays Chinese cinema) and how the director avoid censorship in a smart way, even questioning the social control system that we have here.
I read a comment here saying that "it's a Chinese version of another Western movie". I do believe that the habit of always trying to refer to a movie from a foreign culture by a famous element of your own culture is a mistake and empty the real message of the artistic piece. The movie is more inserted in the line of Asian aesthetics than any Western line.
The movie could be better, specially in details. There is a closure of one of the characters a bit forced and the excessive use of music sometimes destroys beautiful moments of silence.
Overall, is a good movie, and if you want to watch it, keep in mind that the actions of the plot is based on things that are actually happening in Manchuria.
La Jauría (2019)
A nonsense from the beginning to the end.
When I was watching this show I was thinking: how did this crap get the contract with Amazon?
An advice: don't waste your time with this show.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
One of the worst movies I have ever seen.
I went to the cinema with my family, because I'm not specially fan of this kind of movies, so I can give and objective opinion.
If you erase the fighting scenes this become into an horrible heap of clichés and nonsense events who move the poor progression of the plot.
The following is spoiler:
The end (and the way in which Batman and Superman became friends) it's hilarious with a sentimental varnish of emotion. Come on! Really they stop the death struggle for the name of the mothers??? It's like a guy want to kill me but I suddenly said "My mother name is Claudia" and the guy reply "Really! Mine too!! Let's go for a beer and speak about our mothers! Sorry for try to kill you pal"...
Really? I took it like an insult for my smartness.
Shinseiki Evangelion (1995)
One of the deepest story ever who has been shown.
It's very hard to categorize an anime like Evangelion. We could say is a Mecha action story, or we could say is a psychological thriller, or we could speak about a deeply philosophical argument. But also we couldn't say that and anybody could object anything.
The secret to enjoy and, barely, understand Evangelion it's not to try to categorize or apply any kind of narrative preconception, but just accept the polyphonic way how the series show us the actions, and just process all that apparently nonsense by your personal experience and sensibility. Try to understand all the possible interpretations and messages in an objective way it's more appropriate for an academic deconstruction task than an delicious and personal experience of enjoy a anime.
So, my recommendation is just get carried away by the animation, the music, the dialogues and the plot of this outstanding anime and after seeing it, get your own conclusions.
Hunter x Hunter (2011)
The Quimera Ant's arc it's one of the best shonen story in the history.
The firsts arcs of the series are very good, for 8 or 9 stars, but, honestly, the Quimera Ant arc is perfect, for 12 start if that could be possible.
This arc have a strong philosophical background, with amazing questions, and the fight between the parts are without hate (something what the little Gon can't understand).
Anyway, a masterpiece.
Ba wang bie ji (1993)
A Masterpiece in any level.
I had an enormous expectation at moment I seat on my couch and put the movie in my TV, and for my pleasure, the film doesn't disappointed me. I want to speak about four element who, in my opinion, make this film a truly masterpiece.
1. The beautiful photography and the perfect control of the time and the sequence of scenes for part of the director. Nothing is left, nothing is missing. The almost 3 hours what does this last, I almost didn't felt them.
2. The script work. Beautiful dialogues, natural link between one scene and another, and a very credible story. In no one part I thought "this is not possible". A very important achievement for a very ambitious movie like this.
3. The interpretations was magisterial, specially Leslie Cheung (Daoyi) and Gong Li (Juxian). All the time I felt I was looking the characters and I never saw the actor behind them.
4. The movie no only was about the opera, was a kind of opera. I'm a little familiar with the Chinese aesthetic, and this movie remember me the classic literature and the Beijing Opera progression. At the end the film become more symbolic and emotional, just like the climax of the classical Chinese works. This movie capture the Chinese soul, so we don't need to put names like "shakespearean" or make the reference of any other western artist, because the principal inspiration for this movie, in my point of view, is deeply Chinese. This movie is the Taoist ductility of the Chinese art, who are in constantly change and mutation.
Anyone who loves the cinema, the history or the high art must see this movie.
Maeumui sori (2016)
Hilarious
It was the first Korean series I watched in Netflix, and for my surprise it was amazing. With characters perfectly composed and ridiculous but credible situations. Amazing Asian humor and not enough bizarre for scare away the western public.
The music is really Korean, but don't make away the viewers who don't like the Kpop (like me).
The father and the brother are pure gold.
