Best THOR movie ever
2 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was fantastic. It was a lot better than the trailer made it look like it was going to be. FINALLY, there is a movie whose trailer doesn't give away too much. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. It was one that knew not to take itself too seriously, YET at the same time still had EXCELLENT acting. That's a really fine line. I thought the casting was PERFECT.

The story line was believable and moving. I cared for all of the characters and could understand the choices they made. The motivations they had were very clear. I felt a lot even for the evil characters. They turned out to have more depth than on the surface.

The writing has gotten stronger than in previous Thor movies. Also, at the same time, there was great continuity. The movie tied together threads from the previous films. It addressed discrepancies, such as why Thor and Natalie Portman's character were no longer together. It also had really good comedic timing for the characters. They all were funny and didn't overplay their hand.

This movie is great for the Marvel Universe because it builds on the existing story lines. It adds to the lore. It brings back characters you liked from before, such as Loki and The Hulk. It introduces funny new side kicks and interesting potential love interests.

The graphics are also beautiful. It was very realistic looking and had gorgeous colors! I thought these paintings looked like Da Vincis painted by Italian masters!

The Gift (VI) (2015)

Wow! Amazing. Surprisingly great.
5 August 2017
I would give this movie a 9.5 out of 10. This movie was surprisingly good and has opened my eyes to how intelligent thrillers can be. I don't want to spoil it for anyone or raise expectations too much since I am new to the genre. Just most movies I have seen in this category are not typically of this caliber. This one was really well thought out. The plot was very well woven together. All the story lines and details came together. At the same time, everything you think might happen gets turned on its head. ;-) Clichés are gone.

The movie stars Simon and Robyn, a newly wed couple moved from Chicago come back home to LA where Simon grew up for a new job. Quickly into the movie, Simon bumps into a old childhood classmate named Gordo. As Simon puts it though, "Gordo seems a bit off." Very rapidly, the chance encounter escalates. Gordo ends up around more often than Simon would like. The encounters are awkward and uncomfortable but seemingly harmless, right? However, this movie really turns typical conventions on its head. The good guy and bad guy lines are very blurred. The movie lighting, casting, sound, and dialogue are all very strong. The actors all portray the appropriate emotion at the right time. There is just enough subtly to keep things interesting and mysterious. There is just enough excitement to keep you guessing about what's going to happen next.

I am shocked this is not a more well known movie.

Very well done!

Basically Chinese live action of Shokugeki no Soma
18 June 2017
"Cook Up a Storm" is basically a Chinese live-action of the anime Shokugeki no Soma! The beginning of this movie was amazing with beautiful dishes, artistic effects, and perfect footage. The casting and acting and dialogue was also great. The main character Sky Ko is a lot like Soma who is determined to be a chef and runs a small family restaurant while his rival, Paul Ahn is a French-trained chef. The two are rivals and end up competing and trying to out cook each other.

I would give the first half of this movie 10/10 because it was near perfect but unfortunately the end of the film seemed really rushed/unsatisfying. The second half of the movie seemed like they lost the budget (ie. food was a lot sloppier, rushed ending). However, I would still recommend this movie to Shokugeki no Soma fans -- it's essentially the exact same story with AWESOME visual effects!
