Arrambam (2013)
Making it simple... Wasted!
The movie comes with the repeated dialogue of "make it simple" and guess what? That's exactly what the movie is not... nothing is made simple. Everything is exaggerated. I find this movie a total waste of time and money on my part as a movie goer and total waste of great talents such as Ajith, Arya and Nayan. Sad but the true fact is most movies with big talent such as Ajith are solely built around their star power rather than a good story-line. The focus is on making them look more stylish instead of bringing out their potential. I have seen this kind of movies many a times and if you are looking for a truthful verdict, this isn't the movie you would want to spend your money on. The first half of the movie wasn't as intriguing as what the director tried to portray and the 2nd half was so predictable. The so called lovable conversations between Arya and Tapsee does not really seem to be lovable. Nayan was totally wasted in this movie and as much as I acknowledge her talent in acting I would even consider to say this movie as the worst of her career so far. Ajith, what can I say? I just hope that he would make better choices in the future rather than sticking to the same macho-man-wearing-glasses- carrying-gun-in-slow-motion stories.
Warm Bodies (2013)
A Successful Out of Box Effort
I was never.. never a zombie movie fan. It has always been a plot that I could not digest. Initially, I had the Jack and the Giant Slayer in my mind when I planned to go for a movie. However, one thing let to another I found myself convincing my family members to go for this movie instead. Perhaps the trailer that my brother showed me some months ago played a huge part in it. This zombie movie was nothing like any other zombie movies that I have watched. It was an unusual plot - very different and was presented in a way that was so enjoyable. Kudos to Isaac Marion for a creative thinking and Jonathan Levine for a powerful narration. Despite some scenes of discomfort (which i accepted as after all it is a zombie movie) it was largely entertaining. I also found the movie quite hilarious especially the scenes where we get to hear the inner voice of R. Nicholas Hoult played his part brilliantly meanwhile Teresa Palmer captures our heart with her beauty just the way she has made the zombie feel in the movie. The supporting characters made their presents felt too. So, take my word for it - this one is a good one!
Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Mostly predictable yet ENTERTAINING!
An action-packed entertaining movie from start to end with the linings of notable star-cast such as Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Ashley Judd and Radha Mitchell. The trailer was quite promising which made me to go for the movie and I am glad to inform that I have no regrets watching this movie. It is one of the movies that would remind you of some of the other action flicks that you might have watched previously yet at the end it successfully makes its mark. However, despite the good performances by the lead characters such as Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart; I could not help it but wish the latter had more things to do apart from being helpless in most of the scenes as his character was underplayed in my views. The plot is predictable though at most at least however I must admit the director was smart in packaging a-not-so-new-plot with a better delivery tactics. It comes with the blends of action, sense of patriotism, sentiments and just the right amount of humor. A good movie to spend your money on!
