Argylle (2024)
Started out fun......
.......then took a wrong turn. Ok was hoping the story would have a different plot, but then, I didn't write it. Cute movie except: smoke scene 20 minutes too long, skating scene 20 minutes too long, end fight scene 20 minutes too long. Maybe not 20 min for each, but these scenes just seemed to drone on without any purpose for doing so. The redeeming quality were the top rate actors and their talents to carry out some of the oddities of this film. And hats off to Sam Rockwell who has got to be one of the most underrated actors of all time. I could not imagine anyone more perfect for his part playing hero support.
Zorro (2024)
So close!
FANBOY ALERT ! I've seen every incarnation of Zorro, and I'm a huge Zorro fan. This series has merit. Cinematography is top notch. Editing is spectacular. Fight choreography is really good. Set design is great too. The acting is decent as well as the story elements. The series has a lot going for it. That being said, there are a couple of serious shortfalls. I know I'm listening to an English overdub, but if the script was better I feel the acting would be better. I feel like I'm listening to the first draft of a decent script. It's so close but just not there. Personally, I think the actor who plays Zorro/Diego is a bit too light skinned, but he's passable. Although I wish they would get rid of his copious amount of hair product. I hope there's a second season, and I hope they improve on some of the shortcomings. In the meantime, I'm just happy Zorro is back on the screen!
True Story (2021)
Fan-freakin-tastic!
This type of filmmaking doesn't come around often. Performances from all was FIRST RATE! When I'm "all in" a movie, it's great stuff! Just watch it. Read the other reviews for specifics.
Justin Bieber: Our World (2021)
Why is this in the 4's?
I'm gonna do JB a solid.
For the record, I have never been a JB fan. I watched this movie because someone else in the house was watching it...ok, I'll endure. Though still not a JB fan, the "rockumentary" was good. It was personal, it was insightful, and it was entertaining. If you're a JB fan, you should love it. I walked away having listened to more JB than I ever have, like EVER, and even ended up liking a few tunes. I'm not running out to buy JB merch, but it's def a solid 6 stars. (Dropping da mic)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Is it over yet?
Not sure what I just watched, nor how work was allowed to continue in its current state.Whomever authorized this script should be fired on Monday. Not worth the effort to discuss it any further.
The Witcher (2019)
Huge Sci-Fi fan, but......
I really wanted to like this show. But, all the bad things you read about the show are definitely accurate. It's a good thing Henry Cavill has big shoulders because he carries this entire series on them. Dear screen writers, write for the masses not just for the fans of the Witcher series. Skip the TnA for the sake of TnA, write the story, and everything will be OK.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Signal the Illuminati
Read the specifics in other people's reviews. Having seen it 10 minutes ago, it doesn't warrant all the negativity. Show some people a picture, and 1/2 will argue it's blue while the other 1/2 red, yet they'll miss the fact that the dress is beautiful. Show some people a dollar bill, some will see George Washington, yet others will see Illuminati symbolism trying to take over the country, while both groups miss the fact that the dollar can be exchanged for a milkshake. What am I getting at? The movie was entertaining. It's as simple as that. Read into what ever you want, but in the end, its a decent piece of entertainment that is worthy of Star Wars canon.
Spent (2017)
Indie worthy of watching
For a small budget indie movie, I thought it was great! Writing, direction, editing, cinematography and sound were fantastic. As someone else said, the production quality is superb, surprisingly so. Even for an indie movie, the effort in these categories rivaled major studio big budget pictures. The actors who played "Margot Peer" and "Herbert Schumacher" were the clear winners of this film. The movie really picks up around the middle-ish when Herbert shows up as he is the center of this particular universe and all the side stories start coming together. Picking a few things out, the soundtrack could have used a few extra bars, and a couple of re-shoots would have been beneficial to help out some of the dialog. All in all, It's an interesting movie and certainly worth the time to watch. For first time writer/director Lisa Mikitarian, "Bravo"! (BTW...love the rat !)
