Blacklight (2022)
Just awful
I can't come up with a single thing in this movie that even approaches mediocrity. Same old, tired premise of rogue agents gone bad. The writing is horrific, nothing flows in this movie, the action scenes are ridiculous. Liam Neeson needs to start reading scripts before he agrees to them. Speaking of scripts, I think this one was written in about 15 minutes.
Aidan Quinn? I still cannot remove his whiny character in Legends of the Fall from my brain. He was brutal. Every other actor in this film is simply forgettable.
It's so bad, in it's entirety, I kept thinking it just has to get better, but it never did. It just got worse with every scene. Almost 2 hours of my life wasted that I will never get back.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Should be better
It would not be fair to compare this to Peter Jackson's epics so I won't. The cinematography and special effects are first rate for sure.
But So far, the storyline is weak, the acting is inconsistent.
So the Men of Numenor cross the oceans to save the people of the Southlands, but the Southlands is basically one village? Huh?
The Elves sure don't seem very mystical or "elvish".
Galadriel is angry and unlikable. Elrond looks and sounds like a barista.
There's a lot of potential here for a great series, primarily because of Tolkien, but they really need a better storyline and a few acting coaches or cast changes.
American Gangster (2007)
Gritty suspense
Scott managed to weave two stories together into an epic crime drama. Washington rules the screen with each scene he's in and Crowe is solid, if not spectacular.
Other than those two, this film is much more about the story that it is the characters. Still, this film is highly entertaining if not a bit lengthy.
