Rogue Warfare: The Hunt (2019)
Insulting to actual special forces soldiers
How I managed to watch the first film eludes me, what made me watch the second one was sheer stupidity and I blame that decision on lockdown boredom. Quite frankly these films insult the special forces through their use of incorrect dialog, incorrect use of weapons for covert missions, incorrect understanding of warfare, tactics and leadership and this is coming from someone who has no real world experience of the special forces, just some common sense from reading books and watching "good" films on the subject! Not to mention the long dull rantings of the stereotypical bad guy and his brainwashed stooge. I mean he was wearing a pair of his mum's fishnets on his face! And who leaves a suitcase bomb with lethal sarin after a battle without securing it! For safety you'd take that with you and also so you'd have intel to recognise the bomb maker's signature at another time? You know, to keep the world safe? At one point the french soldier is popping off headshot after headshot rambo style without even looking down the scope! He should be in the Olympics! And how one soldier doesn't guard the entrance of the enemy tent whilst his team mates complete part of the mission? What happens...Yes you'll get captured you dumb twits! I will not be watching the third film. The director, producers and writers should have stayed in bed. Just terrible terrible terrible. The only saving grace was the russian sniper she was fairly attractive.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
One of the worst films I've ever seen
I love Spike Lee, I loved Malcolm X, I loved Black Klansman, I love Spike's clever use of dialog, edgy direction, direct and indirect humour, emotive and thought provoking analogies on screen highlighting inequality in the black communities of America. I like how he uses examples of terrible discrimination against black communities as a power source to get positive and regenerative messages across in meaningful and provocative ways. This film was none of that. It was two and a half hours of utter useless mess to in my opinion simply promote the BLM movement. It was boring, confusing and tiring to watch. I love Delroy Lindo he's an incredible actor usually but he was far too emotionally awkward to watch for that length of time. It was not good at all. I love Chadwick Boseman (RIP) but he hardly featured (why?!!) and yet he was still the best actor of the film by miles! Why were the old actors in the flashbacks as old men? If it was deliberate it did not work. Why was the Vietnamese ex-girlfriend incredibly young for her age? Where were the explanations? What a total disappointment and waste of time from usually an outstanding Director.
