Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 2 a disappointment
As many other reviewers have pointed out before me, season 1 was in all aspects great. Casting was impeccable, the visuals stunning in the way it portrayed a future cyberpunk vision and the story was told in a truthful and enjoyable way.
I've been looking forward to season 2 ever since I saw season one. Unfortunately it does not come close to the experience of enjoyment that s1 delivered. The storyline is abysmall, one bad decision after the other seems to be the theme here.
As for the acting it looses what it did so well in season one. Joel Kinnaman perfectly delivered an imposing Takeshi Kovacs and played the features of an envoy perfectly. Anthony Mackie on the other hand (although a decent actor normally) misses the mark and does not fit the character at all. A huge miscast for this show.
After all this I'm still hoping that the third season (if there will be one after this monumental failure) gets back to the roots of season 1 and all that made it great. Bring back Joel as the main lead so that we can sympathize with the character and bring in the original writer.
I'm seriously pondering canceling Netflix as they time and time again follow the same pattern of making a great first season and then in trying to capitalize on the success ruins it with the second season. There is only so much disappointment one can take.
I do not recommend fans of this show to watch the second season, preserve your fond memory and re-watch season 1 instead.
The Grand Tour (2016)
Not as good as Top Gear was
As a big fan of the trio and the work they did on Top Gear I have been looking forward to this show for quite some time now. Matter of fact is Top Gear has always been my all time favorite TV show all categories, and my expectations for The Grand Tour was high.
What they did so well in Top Gear however seems to have been lost along the way. The unscripted feel of Top Gear was in my opinion its greatest feet. In TGT however the script is ever so present and the banter among the trio which made Top Gear so good is gone. I can't nothing but hope they will find their way back to the things that made Top Gear so very good.
With that said it is still a very entertaining show, just not as good as Top Gear was. That it has (when I'm writing this) 9,6 on IMDb in its current form is beyond me. I attribute it to the many fans of Jeremy, Hammon and May.
Oblivion (2013)
Great movie with amazing visuals
I have been expecting this film for a long time now. And tonight when I finally got to see it I was not let down. The film features absolutely stunning cinematography, a great cast and a very good story. This is not the color booming flick like for an example Avatar was, this is a darker more adult film in many ways. The cast performance is superb and I must say that the performance of Andrea Riseborough is at the very best. The first half of the film is great and exciting, the second half is somewhat predictable though and therefore not as exciting. But all in all i would definitely recommend this film. It could possibly be one of the best films of this year.
