Boyhood (2014)
Also very disappointed - long, slow and boring
I went to this movie expecting an incredible "masterpiece" as advertised. On a Saturday afternoon, there were about 25 people there. I was so very disappointed. This movie went on and on and on. So much so that I continued to look at my watch wondering when this movie would end. Would it ever end?? And then it kept going. While the idea of filming over a 12 year time frame is unique and very clever, the film just needs major editing. It's the story of a boy growing up. There was abuse which was painful to watch, but basically the film was just too slow paced and boring. It goes on for almost 3 hours so take a meal with you if you decide to go despite these alerts. It is just slow, long and boring. I seriously considered just getting up and leaving and asking for my money back. I wasn't sure if everyone was in the same pain I was, but I also considered standing up and yelling "when will this film ever end?".
The Last Hangman (2005)
Fascinating
I found this film to be just fascinating. A family of executioners. How did he do it? The people who loved them. How it affected them. How professional he was and how respectful he was. How he did it as quickly as possible out of compassion for the convicted. He felt that he was providing a service for those who were convicted. He felt that as soon as the convicted had died, that they had then paid for their sins and were then sinless. His respect for the deceased and convicted. I loved it. It is all set in England in the 1930s. Albert is actually the son of a professional executioner and then decided that it was also his calling. A true story. I loved it.
Contraband (2012)
Enjoyable heist
I really enjoyed this film. Altho some characters are expected, there are some new characters who I found interesting. Enough unexpected turns to keep me interested. And the plot is easy to follow, not some fantastic indecipherable thriller you can never figure out. A lot of the movie is shot in shipping yards of New Orleans and Panama including the locks. Also credits were given to Iceland and not sure what that was. Liked Mark Wahlberg, and David O'Hara (and his Scottish accent) was a surprise. Not enough car chases for other reviewers? Not enough sex, werewolves, vampires, or torture, drug use or sci-fi story lines? Too bad. A great and clever heist with some nice twists. Very enjoyable.
