Total Recall (2012)
Not quite like the original, but still pretty decent action flick
Although it has a different setting as the 1990 original, i enjoyed this remake quite a bit. Knowing the story, i was curious how they'd twist the story. There are several winks to the original, which i enjoyed, yet it still is a film on its own. If you're hoping to see a rehash, you may be disappointed.
As for the actors, most of them did OK. I sure like a furious Beckinsale, even Farrell did convince me he'd been the bad-guy-turned-good. Cranston was playing his 'Mr White' routine, Biel didn't do it for me however in this one..
The cgi was OK, a bit over the top at some times, but hey, that's what Hollywood blockbusters are about: blingbling over story.
All in all, if you're looking for an action packed scifi action movie, this one should be good enough for an evening with a cool beer and some crisps/popcorn.
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Hmmm.... Way to kill the movie series, Mr Anderson....
Well, it seems this movie was made just to cash in as much as possible from all of us, lovers of the Resident Evil franchise (games and/or movies). After the cliffhanger of the last movie, most of me and my friends and colleagues who love a good action/horror movie were interested to see how Alice could escape the predicament that was falling upon her. If you've seen the other movies of the series, you expect a certain form of quality of this latest installment.
DO NOT WATCH IT...
Clones, clones, clones... yada yada yada... Even the action in the movie turns dull after 15 minutes in. No story, dumb action, lame clones (oh, did i already mention the clones ??).
If this ever one gets released to DVD (God forbid), don't bother until it gets into those nice sell-out baskets for one dollar or euro... and that's event stretching it !
One last thing, if you ever intend to watch the movies, do a movie marathon: if you want to feel like you've had a serious kick in the groin, make sure you watch Retribution. If you like to end the 'marathon' with a good note, SKIP Retribution !
Monster Brawl (2011)
Jeez, did I watch this movie all the way out ?
I've never seen any real wrestling (not living in the US, and the whole 'wrestling' scene has low credibility amongst myself and my friends here in Europe). It seemed interesting, loving horror movies and such, however... At first, I was interested how this battle of the monsters would turn out, biggest let-down ever. Imagine the disappointment you get after opening a present, thinking it would be the one you were hoping for, but turning out to be THE thing you just did not want to get... The fights are like any wrestling shows I looked up, the one guy that gets the first beating wins (almost every time). The monsters have some back story, enough to keep you interested just long enough (that's why I watched the movie till the end). But in the end, the 'open' ending will not make you want to see a possible sequel(pray to God there will never be a second one), but instead wanting your money back for viewing it. Even if you ever can view it for a discount price (as I did), it sure isn't worth the money spent in producing it.
