The Winter King (2023)
Based on the books.. but they are so far from them!
I have looked forward to this adaptation... But alas, it is not for me!
It just does nothing to hold your attention, there is nothing in the acting that warms you to any of the characters.
The episode storylines, they are tepid and I'm not sure what one episode does to lead into another...They seemed in a bit of a hurry to get it started and then in a rush to get it all finished
Maybe it's because I read the books 20 odd years ago... I must hold them in some misty eyed reverence or something!
This series will ride off of the back of the books, but that's all it does I'm afraid, which is a real shame, because there was so much scope.
Moonfall (2022)
Leave your brain at the door - sit back and enjoy
It is a cracking what if... Disaster movie.
The acting is decent, but never going to win any awards, the storyline plausible yet highly unlikely and the script exactly where you'd expect it to be for its genre... I LOVED it!
It's not meant to be too thought provoking; it's there to be enjoyed - Honestly, I had avoided watching this movie due to some of the 'expert' reviews AND the IMDb ratinig (I am sure Emmerich is devastated to read that)... On a low ebb, nothing to watch on Sunday evening, this film became an option - VERY pleased I took it - Look, if you dont mind a bit of cheese, then this movie is great, fun, and enjoyable! ESPECIALLY to those of us with an enquiring mind towards space (slight spoiler)
I have often wondered about aborted Space Launches what if someone just said 'aww screw it, let's just go... we can fix forward...' I mean we do it every day on Earth right!
Honestly, it's a fun movie, just don't think about it too hard!
Voyagers (2021)
Lord of the Spaceship
A decent attempt to bring the classic Lord of the Flies up to 'code' and it succeeds on many levels but yet it doesn't quite hit the highs of the novel.
The characters are well acted and the script is good, but you find yourself drawn to the flaws and the holes as soon as they appear, maybe it's because it's taking on a literary classic... not sure.
A good attempt, but falls short for me.
Sweet Girl (2021)
It's not going to win any oscars
But, grab some popcorn, leave your brain at the door and enjoy. It's alright.
Bliss (2021)
I'm clearly not enlightened...
It starts going downhill from the roller rink scene... it's 103 minutes of wtf.
Like the title says, maybe it's me, maybe I'm just not smart enough, I don't like running over others work, but it's just too weird!
I'll pop 10 bluey's in a minute and eject! It's so far removed from sense, it's unreal!
I'd quite like the thought visualiser to be reality though
