Comedy + Action + Fantasy = F.U.N
9 August 2017
Had a good time watching his movie with my girlfriend. The soundtrack was amazing. The action intense. Comedy was dark and pretty funny. Some things didn't make sense e.g. an Asian Martial Arts Fighter (100 Hundred Eyes from Marco Polo) with the Name of George. But that's fine - 2 hours went by as if they were nothing. Evening well spent!

Great CGI but the rest was sh*t.
5 August 2017
This Movie reminds me of instant noodles - cheap ingredients mixed with sugars and flavor enhancers. Tastes, or in this case - looks good - but is still full of sh*t.

The story is so bad that this movie was one of the (very) few where I was nearly mid through about to abort and leave. But I wanted to know how the movie ended.. so I stayed. The characters and their decisions were a complete mess. Oh and regarding characters - there were so many deaths that it was not possible to create any connection.

In the end it wasn't worth it. I can't say much without spoiling anything - but if you want to turn off your brain and watch a 'murica movie (yeah to guns, yeah to stereotypes and no to story) and waste 2 hours - go ahead. The only great thing were the superb CGI, the somewhat great costume design in the middle of movie and the heartwarming epilogue at the end.

Marco Polo (2014–2016)
10/10
Game of Thrones - Asia Style
1 August 2017
One year ago I watched the first episode of Marco Polo but stopped because it seemed quite boring. I re-watched it one week ago again and continued to binge watch the following days. My girlfriend and I devoured it.

Yes. The show has a slow start, but patience is a virtue. What comes after is perfect in its own way. Is it historically correct? Generally. Most of the main characters existed through out history. Does it make sense that everyone speaks English? Not really. But this is where art starts. If I wanted to watch a true representation of history - I'd choose a documentary - not a Drama!

Watching Marco Polo won't give you a complete satisfaction since Netflix decided to cancel before it could finish the story. But as in life - the journey is the destination. Those 20 episodes are intense and displayed through beautiful art in visual design and sound.

Maybe - if enough people take a leap of faith in watching Marco Polo - then maybe we will have the chance for the continuation of the story in the future.

But until then - my life would be missing something. Even if it's just about those quotes by 100 Eyes..

"Every legend must come to an end."

Waterworld (1995)
9/10
One of the greatest apocalyptic movies ever made
19 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
(I don't really think that I spoiler anything, but I just wanted to make sure)

I love apocalyptic movies - I really do. It is the extreme contrast to our current reality which makes them so interesting. So this was a plus on watching "Waterworld".

I've watched Waterworld for the first time about 10 years ago and whenever I think back I have a good feeling about the movie. That's why I watched it again in 2016. And boy - it didn't disappoint.

The story as an apocalyptic movie is great, but the atmosphere is exceptional well done and gripping.

As for the acting goes - I'm not really an expert in it even though I've watched a lot of movies in my 23 years - but I had the feeling that it was superb.

But what I really liked about Waterworld is the connection between Mariner (Kevin Costner) and the little kid. Mariner who became very coldhearted, egoistic and skeptical to other humans through his ruff time on the water for many years, learns to trust and even developed feelings/emotion for other human-beings through his interaction with the little girl. He is the typical "hard shell, soft core"-man.

Last but not least - "older" movies - around 1985-2005 (Lethal Weapons, Rush Hour etc etc) have this realistic feeling/vibe which I really miss on current blockbusters. They all look too much enhanced through CGI.

It made me want to take cocaine

"Kill Your Friends" is very good remake of "American Psycho". If you liked American Psycho - you won't regret watching "Kill your Friends". There are even some really cool references in the movie.

In the end - the whole movie has a very dark and bizarre but still entertaining flair. Quite often during the movie I had the feeling of thinking that there is nothing anymore which could shock me and then BAM - something happened and my mind was blown away. A bit similar to the unpredictability in Game of Thrones.

Oh and Nicholas Hoult's performance is pretty good. I liked the way they made him speak his thoughts into the camera and even redid some scenes so they matched his sometimes very bizarre thoughts/conscience.

Lazer Team (2015)
3/10
Flat comedy - annoying characters
3 February 2016
When I first saw the poster and the IMDb rating of 7 - I was impressed and couldn't wait to watch the movie. However, I'm really disappointed that the hype couldn't deliver.

Some people argue that the story of "lazer team" could have been written by a child. But this doesn't have to be a bad thing. I found the plot to be interesting. Only the execution was poorly done. Why?

First of all - the characters are boring and annoying. I understand that comedies kind of live from stereotypical over exaggerated persona. But this was too much.

Do you knows this feeling when you're watching a bad horror movie and you think to yourself:"No, don't go there. You'll be killed. No, dude - don't go there.Oh, he's dead..."

"Lazer Team" is similar to that. Very predictable, flat jokes, boring character development. If this were made by a Youtube channel and only aired on Youtube - I wouldn't complain. But as a real movie - "Lazer Team" is just not good enough.
