The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
This film was one of my fondest "childhood memories"! I remember seeing it at a "Drive-In Theatre" when I was a kid! I have it on DVD now, and all I can say is, Don Knotts was a comedic "Genious"!
His facial expressions and comic timing were so great! Of course, composer Vic Mizzy's soundtrack added so much to the atmosphere of the film, as well.
What else I find funny is that the, "Atta' boy Luther!" that is used throughout the Don Knotts films has been adapted to the Adam Sndler films. For example: "You can do it!" This is an excellent family film, and I can only hope it will be enjoyed by more generations to come!
By the way, Vic Mizzy, the composer of the soundtrack of this film, is also the composer of "The Addams Family" series, as well as "Green Acres"!
All in all, This film was a great collaboration!
The ABC Saturday Superstar Movie: Lost in Space (1973)
Lost in Space :Animated!
Being a fan of the "Lost in Space" TV series, I remember how excited I was to hear about an animated version for Saturday morning! Boy! Was I ever disappointed! It turns out that the only things this "abortion" had in common was Dr. Zachary Smith (voiced by Jonathan Harris) and the robot! Okay, so there were two characters by the name of Robinson, and the spaceship/shuttle was called Jupiter 2, but the similarities end there! Smith was actually a crew member on this Jupiter 2, not the villain he started out as on the series, but the cowardly buffoon he later became. No wonder it never went to series! All in all, I'd like to see it again just for the nostalgia of it. But it still was nothing like the "Lost in Space" we knew and loved!
'It's Alive!' (1969)
It "is" Alive!
This movie was extremely disturbing to me when I first saw it as a kid. Early 70's, late night "Creature Features"! The stock music that Larry Buchanan always used in his movies contributed a lot. But what really disturbed me the most was Billy Thurman's loony character. He physically resembled an uncle of mine! That was really creepy! Considering my uncle is a nice guy. The monster was hokey as hell, but still creeped me out.(Hey! I was 10 years old!) The real monster though, was Bill Thurman's character. He played it with his usual "intensity", and it was scary! No, it will never go down in history as a "classic", but I would like to have it on DVD, to bring back that 10 year old. Just so he can laugh at it now!
