A Good Person (2023)
Ran out of steam
This movie felt as if it just didn't go far enough- the sickly sweet ending and the 'addiction' just all felt too neat and light. An ok watch but would not bother if you want a feeling of reality and depth. Oh, and the fiancé ... spoke in poetic prose throughout and so his anger at his father was weirdly incongruous.
The daughter's story was also strangely convenient - angry and rebellious felt true to her feelings, but then suddenly best buddies with the person who killed her parents.
Morgan Freeman was also oddly played - he is ALWAYS great, but his slip in and out of alcoholism and his storytelling around the train set was all just a little contrived.
All in all - not a terrible film but left me feeling 'meh' at the end and completely Uni vested in any character.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Excellent and different
Was recommended to me and it lived up to the recommendation. Largely due to Thomasin McKenzie who is likeable and extremely talented - combined with a really unusual story line.
After Life (2019)
Wow ... I experienced every emotion watching this!
I wasn't a huge fan of Ricky Gervais until I watched this - beautiful writing; funny and with the hard edged shock comic lines that you'd expect. I sobbed and I laughed out loud and, probably like most people, I related to the sense of loss that feels unbearable. Wonderful and I recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind feeling emotionally drained ... it for all the right reasons.
Guilt (2016)
Feels like I've seen it all before
I can't help feeling that this is influenced by the Kutcher incident? American girl and her European boyfriend, murder in their apartment, tabloid judgement etc? But everything from the acting to the accents - particularly the 'I'm from Scotland Yard' policeman ... no one says that here in the UK! As someone else noted, there are so many 'this is how the US think we do things' moments too - factually incorrect.
Absolutely will not continue past episode 2 - which I've struggled through.
