The Addiction (1995)
According to all these reviews, I think I missed the point
I respect the user reviews here a lot.
I am genuinely in the minority in not admiring this movie. I admire the work of Ferrara and many of the actors in it. However, I thought that the great Lily Taylor sounded fed-up and was simply reciting memorized pages of Philosophy for Dummies.
There has to be some connection between the director and Dick Wolf or w/LAW AND ORDER FOR so many of the L&O actors to have been involved w/this project. Maybe it's D'Onofrio's connection w/Taylor and their masterwork, HOUSEHOLD SAINTS.
I am pleased so many people find this an amazing work, but I just didn't get it.
Dust (2001)
Power blackout as end credits began; perfect metaphor
This abomination reminded me of Heaven's Gate -- not the film, just the feeling of sitting through it.
What starts out interesting and promising degenerates into pointless, unfathomable mush. However, the fact that the two lead actors wail and shriek a lot does seem a clever way to disguise that (1) they are British w/appropriate accents and (2) the script is inane.
I need to write some more lines, but that would just waste words so I will repeat paragraph 2:

The director hasn't worked since 2010. This probably does not include his janitorial work, for which he is eminently qualified.
What a mess!
Scent of a Woman (1992)
Dated beyond belief and quite immoral in its message
Incredibly dated in its frightening and reactionary message. So what we learn is that loyalty trumps everything. Maybe when it comes to a stoopid prank. But what if soldiers rape and murder innocent civilians (hullo, it has happened as has even worse); does loyalty trump morality? The film says it does. One line Pacino says during his A FEW GOOD MEN speech was muffled and it may be, "Some cornball crap" or something like that. In that case, I rescind what I wrote. If he said that, then he realized that what he said was bs and it's all a stupid game.
Also, the fluctuations in Pacino's accent are unnerving. First, it's pretty much standard speech, often New York-ese and turns to southern dialect in the final scene.
