Fire of Love (2022)
Beautiful documentary, but had one flaw I couldn't get past.
Like so many others have said; this is a wonderfully put together documentary from fragments of the subjects' own footage. The art work that fills in the visual gaps is creative and timeless, but still felt representative of the time periods we were witnessing. It's amazing how much of their lives they were able to put on film. The soundtrack/score was not distracting, which is a good thing IMO, unless it's distracting for a good reason.
The most unappealing thing about this film has to be the narrator's voice. It is like a horribly, unattractive spoof of Jena Malone's narration in the film "Into the Wild". It felt like it was asking questions when there was no question being asked. The inflections just felt wrong in many parts of the film. That is just one viewer's opinion though.
Anyways, definitely worth a watch, but could have been better.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
OH MY (10) STARS!!!
This was shaping up to be a 10 star episode anyways, but holy mess! Seeing that green lightsaber immediately made me fall apart into mess of tears and cheering. I thought nothing would top bringing Boba Fett back or finally bringing Ahsoka to life, but you freaking did it! Thank you, Mr. Favreau for making Star Wars amazing again. We will continue to watch your career with great interest.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
At Long Last!
First things first: I have been patiently await Ahsoka's live action arrival since her first appearance as a CGI cartoon, as have MANY others. I feel like I had high hopes and expectations going into this, and surprisingly, I did not feel let down. I can't say that I imagined Rosario as being Ahsoka, not that I had given it a lot of thought, but I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw she was cast as her. I am not super familiar with her filmography up to this point, but I was impressed, for the most part. It was weird not having Ashley Eckstein's voice come out of what looked like a perfect live rendition of Ahsoka, but it still worked. I thought the lightsaber work was pretty good, someone said pedestrian, but compared to some of the lightsaber duels we saw in "A New Hope", I cannot complain (don't @ me. You know they weren't as thrilling as some of the duels we have seen in the PT or even the trilogy of which we don't speak).
The story was easily one of the more compelling plots we have had this season. It felt more like it was building and entangled with where we will see Mando end up in the finale of this season. It was nice after seeing the previous episode, which felt a little repetitive to the first season.
All I can say is bring on more episodes! I'm here for it!!
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Why?
You had such a strong start. Why did you resort to the over tired and cliche salem witch bit???
Lady and the Tramp (2019)
Watchable
The story is pretty much exactly the same as the 1955 version. The CGI made the dogs look really weird and creepy, especially the Tramp. Probably could have used some extra dollars and time on improving the CGI there. However, I loved the set design for the movie though. That house was absolutely gorgeous!
Overall, it was a watchable movie, but it probably isn't one I would watch again.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Pleasantly Surprised, But. . . .
I went in with REALLY low expectations. After leaving the previous installment feeling completely bummed, I left this movie with a revived sense of nostalgia for the days "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away". There were moments that were not cohesive between the mood and the dialogue, which I thought were a little awkward. Overall, i thought that it was a solid movie. Was it the best one? No. Was it even close? No. But I felt a small tinge of the excitement I felt as a child when watching 'A New Hope', which is all I ask for from any Star Wars Sagas going forward.
