The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them (2014)
Love MacAvoy, like Chatwick, William Hurt is the most boring actor in filmdom.
B/c I like the actors in this pretentious, silver-spooned New Yorkers story (except for dull William Hurt), i got thru it. The other reviewers who rated this long film a 1 or 2 said it best. Scroll to their reviews; I concur verbatim.
Btw, I saw MacAvoy and Chatwick acting very chummy on a promo; it appeared like they'd been very intimate during filming this (again) long film.
Cosmopolis (2012)
Read DeLillo novel, saw the movie on TuBi
First, find Top Review by tgooderson on User reviews, "Not for Everybody". He rated film 7 too; i agree completely with his review. To continue...
I also became bored during Pattinson's long scene at the end with Paul Giometti. Not only is he 'hard on the eyes,' his being bulbous, but the long, verbose soliloquy he gives veers into the atmosphere.
Additionally, i was surprised to see actor, Juliette Binoche, screwing her brains out atop Pattinson.
London Fields (2018)
Johnny Depp & Jim Sturgess shine bright.
I enjoyed the film version of the novel directed by Cullen. Especially Depp and Jim Sturgess as the lovable, creepy "Keith Talent." Author, Martin Amis debuts in a cameo as "Julian Neat" at the darts tournament.
In book, "Visiting Martin Amis," the author details his novel "London Fields" and main characters, Nicola Six, Keith Talent, and "Guy Clinch." Coincidentally, Julia Clinch wrote "Visiting Martin Amis" (Amazon).
Out of Blue (2018)
Director should act, not direct.
Director Carol Morley tried hard but failed painfully to bring Martin Amis's (based on) novel, "Night Train", to the screen. (Morley got full screenwriting credit.)
Mrs Blackwell sloppily eating was disgusting to watch (as well as the cruel nose pinch). You heard the director telling her en scene "spill food down your blouse. "
Clarkson's brunette wig screamed (glued on) fake rug.
Trying to parallel cosmology with a young woman's death proved beyond Ms Morley. This thought experiment didn't work.
Nyukhach (2013)
Innovative concept for a detective story
The lead actor is convincing as a man with a preternatural sense of smell. His extra-sensory nose is beyond phenomenal as a human sense organ, and he uses it as a positive skill to solve crimes. His ex-wife is gorgeous but she goes a bit over the top to portray a witch with a capital B. Hopefully, she will tone down her "acting" in her next films.
In the opening scene, "the Sniffer" detects an ominous-looking man who boarded the plane has a bomb hidden in his arm cast. The Sniffer tells the flight attendant to alert the pilot Captain, etc...
I wondered how the man with the bomb in his arm cast got past security? Wouldn't the X-ray machines and walk thru's have detected the explosive device?...and arrest him for "packing heat?"(how did he even get on board the plane?) The red sports sedan the Sniffer drives is hot. It looks like it's a newer model Mustang.
The film was made in the Ukraine and shows a lot of local color in Kiev, its capitol city. Entertaining, clever film.
