Anyone But You (2023)
Eye Candy and Beaches
Although neither of the main characters are my type I can absolutely see what the casting directors were going for. The movie was predictable down to end credit song.
"What happens in Vegas " , "the Proposal", "Blended","American sweethearts" these are just a few of the countless rom-coms with the exact plot only this time it's *drumroll* in Australia!
I did get Few laughs from Ben but his "good looks" and persona couldn't carry the entire film.
I wanted to like Bea but once the credits did roll I was wondering where her personality was.
The adding of Bea and Bens exes was a completely useless subplot and only made the movie messier .
No one acts like the people did in this movie in 2024, being cool with exes and parents obvious enough to pay for an ex to come go a wedding around the world would never happen. Round trip tickets to Sydney would be at the very minimum $2500 and who would blow the cash ? Ben and bea meeting the way they did was the cheesiest thing I've seen in a while .
It was just oh so perfect.
Even though I knew they would end up together I was mildly surprised they added an additional down turn in their relationship but I also saw that coming along the way, Will they end up together ?won't they? We all knew they would.
I did love the cinematography ! This was an okay rom com for me but I won't yearn to see it ever again.
The Titan (2018)
Didn't tell the full story
Maybe there will be a sequel? The beginning of the movie was very interesting - a new take on the ending of the world and what would humans do to survive. And the best solution was to inhabit another rock in the Galaxy but to do so humans had to evolve. Great!
I kept thinking there would be a time in the movie where they eventually got to said rock and that would be the high point of the movie... But that never happened... Instead it turns into this story of how a woman is going to deal with her new genetically modified husband, who can no longer speak. Plus how the subjects are injected with animal DNA and turn into these bat like, reptilian like creatures. If you know who Anthony Loffredo is (The real life guy who has modified his body with surgery and extreme tattooing to look like a Black Alien) they kinda look like that!
Spoiler - they don't make it to the other Rock until the very very end of the movie and they don't really tell a complete story.
I'm assuming there won't be sequels.. there could be but... Probably not. I feel like this would have been better suited for a Netflix Limited series and that would have made it 100 times better and gave the time to have at least 2 good seasons but the rushed a long winded story line into 1.5 hours
Lots of opportunities missed!
Mean Girls (2024)
Whose idea was this ?
This movie gave me mixed emotions, when I heard that there was going to be a Mean Girls musical I was moderately excited! Then I saw the previews and I thought to myself - wait a second who the hell needs a mean girls musical...but some of the new one liners were kind of funny so I thought I'd give it a go!
The movie is jumbled, the best part of the original is that we got to watch Cadys transcendence into tyranny and this movie made it seem like it just happened overnight-While dragging out other plot lines unnecessarily. They changed enough of the movie to not call it remake and tried to appeal to the younger, less funny and more sensitive generation... I feel like there were too many plot holes because they heavily relied on people remembering the first one and didn't try too hard to connect the dots.
Cady - good acting and depiction of the original but has no genuine emotion or likability
Regina - the actress is great but doesn't bring the full mean girl energy of the original
I would have liked to see the actresses who played Karen and Gretchen switched , the actress who played Gretchen didn't bring it at all and is most unbelievable
Of them all.
I did enjoy seeing Tina, Fe,
The music was just okay not catchy or memorable... The music had a highschool musical undertone but pushed for the pg-13 rating
Overall I feel the movie tried but it could have been way better. The charm and humor of the original is non existent .
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
I am suddenly 14 years older...
First of all the movie was long af. As long as it took for them to make this movie is as long as it took for me to finish it.
I will say, I loved the movie! The visuals were great I love seeing what came of Jake and his family and there was plenty of violence to keep me entertained! Especially the part where that guy lost his arm. On the other hand, it was predictable, I mean I predicted at least 75% of the movie. Did anyone else think the whales looked like tremors?? Anyways The least impressive part is definitely the fact there wasn't a new and exciting threat/villain and it's a little irritating that- In over a decade the producers or writers, couldn't have thought of something new and exciting . I still enjoyed the movie...Now that I know And accept the villain is going to be the same in the next avatar movie.. I began to appreciate the movie a little more because hey- I have seen ALL of the Halloween movies.
I do think there is a potential for the third movie to be the greatest but I couldn't help to think - I wish that there was a different "threat" . I'm pretty sure the purpose of this movie is to set it up for Spider to become the next villain but don't quote me. It's giving wars with the whole father/son storyline. I'm glad I waited almost 2 years to finally watch this movie because now I don't have as long to wait for the next.
Hopefully they can keep the charm and bring something new and excited to to next one !
Blended (2014)
How could you not LOVE this movie?
One of my favorite Adam Sandler movies, not only did they cast the Sandler family they casted actors from The Wedding Singer and 50 First dates-even George-the back up singer in The Wedding Singer made a cameo in Blended. If there is one thing for sure it's that Adam Sandler is loyal friend , a great father and husband and the best connection to have in Hollywood. You can hate his movies all you want but that type of person is gold. The chemistry between Drew and Adam cannot be replicated anywhere else not even Adam and Jennifer Aniston can produce such a genuine dynamic. The only thing I would have changed is more education on which part of Africa they traveled to. The mother land provides thousands of countries and cultures and I would have loved to have known where they actually were. Without a doubt this movie is full of non stop laughter (especially the Terry Cruise and Shaquille O'Neal scenes) love and warm moments. I typically watch horror or thrillers but I have yet to see a better Rom com since the 90s early 2000s.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Tough Crowd...
They had me at "hello Dexter Morgan "
I waited years for this reboot and I am far from disappointed. Most all of us can say the ending in the original Dexter was bad because it left so many doors open. Dexter New blood didn't. Although I would have LOVED 3-4 more seasons of New Blood the ending was quite poetic and beautiful! I have no more questions I know now what happened to Dex, Harrison , Hannah and Batista .
Yes Angela letting Harrison go is farfetched AF. She really did get on my nerves because it was like she was Deb but worse but it still doesn't take away from what a great season it was.
Deb (Dexter's conscious) was so over the top and annoying I could have done without the dramatics
Harrison definitely passes as what I imagined Dexters son would be like
It was great to see Batista I just wish him and Dexter could have been Face to Face one more tome.
They introduced a diabolical new serial killer, Kurt which really had me thinking Dexter had met his Match.
Despite the flaws Dexter New blood made me feel like it was 2008 again. I'll watch again and again.
The School for Good and Evil (2022)
I liked it !
I really don't understand all the hate all I can deduct is that most of the people leaving bad reviews have an impossible standard for movies .
This movie borders a PG and PG-13 rating
The cast is phenomenal (Laurence Fishburne, Charlize Theron - I love her in literally everything- and Kerry Washington)
It allows for A-list actors to make an appearance while also allowing the new and upcoming actors to shine.
I thought Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso we're both quite charming, some of my favorite scenes were when Sophie (Caruso) finally embraced her calling and show cased some fabulous evil dresses and the fight scene where good became evil and evil become good and a pretty cool rendition of Britney Spears' Toxic was playing in the background.
This story Is not about love but a story of friendship. I thought it a refreshing take on fairytales alike . Definitely a good watch when you've got nothing to do on a Saturday morning .
Bad Trip (2021)
I dismissed this movie at first
Just like the title I was not at all interested in watching this movie but I let a friend pick the movie and this was presented so I thought why not? I ended up laughing more than expected and was pleasantly surprised about how funny the movie was . Eric Andre is so damn funny but also cringey af haha. The people's reactions are really what did it. The only scene I felt was more scripted than not was the gorilla scene because there's no way those people actually believed that was was a real gorilla. Even with that it was still funny. The plot was predictable of course but dumb humor and outrageous scenarios made this movie a fun watch!
The Requin (2022)
I don't understand the hate
Maybe it's one of those movies where is so bad it's good? I don't understand the hate for this movie I've seen a lot worse on SciFy network and still enjoyed them. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It kept me entertained and I liked seeing Silverstone in a different light. The movie touched on a lot sensitive subjects and Silverstone delivered a compelling performance. Sure the cgi could have been better but would it really be a shark movie if it were? Sometimes cheesy is good especially when reusing a classic subplot that stems from one of the cheesiest franchises of all time : JAWS. Take the movie for what it is and enjoy.
Nope (2022)
I liked it but...
Okay so the movie has a TON Of build up that keeps you wanting to see more. I do like how Jordan Peele put in chapters so to speak and I genuinely liked the movie. I'm rating it a six because it had 2 story lines that didn't quite connect... The main purpose of the movie was supposedly to showcase the downfall of using animals in show business and aliens? Okay cool. What I thought was going to connect was the aliens possessing the animals to do horrendous things but NOPE. "Glenn" excuse me Jupe had a traumatic experience with a chimpanzee when he was a child and as an adult he, not only bought the horses from OJ but then attempted to feed them to the alien... Okay great but what does that have to do with the chimp? There were opportunities to connect the plot but they didn't land.
At first I thought there would be aliens coming out of the ship and I was looking forward to the cinematography Peele would use to create stereotypical aliens (ie independence day, predator, war of the worlds, SIGNS!) but it turns out the ship Was the alien itself okay cool... A bit of let down but it was still kinda cool I guess definitely different than expected.
I'm a huge keke Palmer fan but she was so loud and obnoxious the whole time it drew away from the plot. Oj was relaxed and Chill and I could respect that. Glenn... Sorry, Jupe was kinda just there to be there and I'll gladly watch anything with Steven Yeun but I seriously can't even Remember what happened to his character...I guess he got ate.
Over all there was some hits and some misses with his movie. I think it's worth a second watch... Down the road... And I'll continue to watch movies directed by Jordan Peele.
Midsommar (2019)
I actually hated this Movie
The only reason I'm giving it a 2 is because I did sit through the whole thing willingly.
I wouldn't consider it horror but it is disturbing and egregious. The facts that it has a 7 is outrageous to me and kinda makes me want to rewatch but I would honestly rather eat paint. I watched this movie over a year ago and it still haunts me with how terrible it was and this is the only movie I've ever seen where I really wished I could get my time back.. The birthing scene makes me want to claw my eyes out and the whole tainting of the dudes milk made me want to vomit.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
I only watched for Tobey
So you would think that after the Spider man 3 flop with Tobey Maguire they would have learned NOT to cram so many villans into one movie... Nope. The movie was clustered AF. MY Favorite part in the movie was when Jamie fox says "there's got to be one black spiderman out there." And that's the sad part.
I watched this movie on a flight and most of it was boring. I was waiting the entire time for Tobey and when he came it was like he was so tired of being spider man that he didn't really want do the movie, he was just there.
If they were bringing back villans they should have brought Harry back.
Although this movie had tons of nostalgia and Tobey will always be my Spider man, I felt like this movie was highly over rated.
Prey (2022)
Just the kinda violence I needed in my life
The predator : sick
The kills :bad ass
The representation : 100%
This movies kicks ass! They weren't lying when they said this is the best predator movie since the original.
Lady of the Manor (2021)
This movie is Under rated
I think people's expectations are way too high during the pandemic. This movie was funny and heartwarming. Coming from someone who used to watch "to catch a predator," the fact that movie started and ended with her being a registered sex offender is hilarious.. Classic humor mixed with a really cute story. I think Adam long did a great job of directing and staring in this movie.. It's a bit of horrible bosses and anything with Adam Sandler vibe. Judy Greer was hilarious and it was so funny to see. Melanie Lynskey play the slacker role. I like how the movie played tribute to Savannah GA and its history! Good movie!
Hard Candy (2005)
I was really excited at first
I love a good Vengeance movie. The most frustrating thing about this movie was the way it was filmed, I did not like the jittery/shakey camera angle and it made me dizzy at times. But I'll respect it for the artistic perspective. I also love a good violent movie and would've loved to have seen more of the castration process but that's just me. The movie just kind of starts and all of a sudden you're an awkward date with a pedophile in a public setting which nobody seemed to bat and eye. The movie kind of dragged after the first few failed escape attempts....and I was just ready to see the point. Did I like the movie? Sure. Would I suggest someone else watch it? Probably not.. Elliot page was great though he definitely had a charm. Patrick Wilson was somewhat believable but I can't see Ed Warren as a pedo.. It also ended abruptly
(you see what I mean)
Bringing Down the House (2003)
I guess racism used to be funny
There was not one single black person in the movie that was portrayed as intelligent, literate or non criminal if you minus Queen Latifahs innocence, every black person in the movie was portrayed As a thug or hood rat while every single white person in this movie had money and were flying on private jets and being rich in some way. Definitely a movie that didn't age well but Still some funny parts I guess... Really funniest part was the bathroom fight scene and the rest of the movie was just Meh.
The Adam Project (2022)
Ryan Reynolds does Time Travel
It's really One of the better movies that Netflix has put out in a while. The best part about the movie is how well the young actor portrayed a young Ryan Reynolds. I don't know about you but I definitely loved to seeing Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo together again, after 13 going on 30 I imagine this is what happened with their life. Time travel movies Are always the same. The ending was predictable I just wish they had saved Mark Ruffalo's character, what's the point of being able to time travel if you aren't going to change the future? Ryan Reynolds is funny but he's the kind of funny I can only handle in small doses or it gets played out. I wasn't a Deadpool fan (I know shoot me). But overall this movie was a great watch and I may even watch it again soon.
Life & Beth (2022)
I liked the younger versions story line
*update after season 2*
It's worse than the first and literally an auto biography of Amy Schumer's real life. They should have just named the show Life & Amy. It felt super rushed for no reason. There was some funny parts of course but they, again come from Amy's - I mean Beth's circle of friends. Will I watch a 3rd season...? Maybe if there's nothing else on
I like when shows portray the upbringing of the current characters so we can delve into why they are the way they are while seeing how they turned out. Beth's sister is adorable as an adult and the scene where she was swimming with the fish she caught was heartwarming. Michal Rappaport did well in his role and brought a bit of charm to the show and I loved all her friends and representation of thier love lives as well. What I can't understand is how in every Amy Schumer drama she has some well to do man obsessing over her even though she is crass and un lady like. It's unrealistic to me how a woman like that can jump from guy to guy to guy and always end up with a good man despite lacking better personality traits. Don't get me wrong I really do like Amy Schumer but I am tired of her terrible characters. I also don't understand the casting of Michael Cera as he doesn't give me the ranch hand vibe and there is no genuine connection between him and Amy in my opinion. All in all I liked the show but I don't see where it can go from here.
Trainwreck (2015)
Some funny parts
To be honest I think this is the most I've laughed at John Cena to date. Bill Hader is Always hilarious and hey Captain Marvel even made an appearance. Now I loved Amy Schumers first break out stand up comedies and I can watch her movies with not many complaints but Amy's (probably really life personality) character was not likeable at all its irritating sometimes to see what men will put up with as long as a woman is tall and blonde.
Catfight (2016)
I Thoroughly enjoyed watching them kick each other's ass!
This movie tells a story about how two women's hate for eachother effectively ruined thier lives. Of course the fight scenes are over the top that's what makes it hilarious! I have no doubt that these two will fight to the death. It's charming in a way lol hate and love are really filled with just as much passion. The only thing that lasted was thier distain for eachother but hey I'm glad Veronica sons videos were restored.
Roaring Twenties (2021)
It's one of those shows you watch when there's nothing else to watch
I'm half way through the show and I'm realizing that none of the cast members are remotely interesting. There's also a ton of fakeness about this show and the shows entirety seems very insecure, very minimal drama (which is the opposite reason of why me an many other people watch reality TV). At least they rounded up enough attractive people for me to see where this goes..
Army of the Dead (2021)
Love the zombie killing plot is a waste
Soo.... Almost a 3 hour movie just to have the majority of the cast not only leave empty handed but also die along the way....and the one that does get the money realizes he was bitten while he's already off to another country so he can keep the zombie apacalypse going.... I mean okay but what was the point because I'm not interested in a sequel... I'd say over all it was a good Friday flick but otherwise the plot was completely wasted and pointless.
Wentworth (2013)
I wish I could Rate a 100
JUST Watched the series finally and let me tell you how the show is all about redemption! I didn't think they could come back after the killing of Bea but they sure as hell did and set the bar high for other series!
The character development is spot on for the main characters, they delve into thier lives before they get to prison and during. The series shows how prison changes people for the better or worse.
I love the representation of all people. I was always told Australia is the most progressive Country and I believe it.
Although there was a few loose ends this finale has been the best yet. I cried like a baby! Wentworth forever!
The Guilty (2021)
Boring
You basically watch Jake Gyllenhaal talk on the phone the entire time. Not exciting at all. Quite dreadful not captivating enough to keep up with.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
Okay Slasher WAY TOO PREDICTABLE
Sooo I love a good slasher they had some decent slasher scenes even though they were noticeably fake and lackluster. And I knew Zack was the killer literally the second he came on screen.
