The Handmaid's Tale: The Word (2018)

Frustrating
1 March 2024
This whole season has been frustrating to say the least. There's only so many times attempting to escape and getting caught keeps you on the edge of your seat. Every episode of season 2 is pretty much the same - nothing remotely interesting happens. The finale topped it off, with June's ridiculous, and unrealistic decision.

Also, I'm pretty sure in reality June wouldn't feel sorry in any way shape or form for Serena. She's equally as evil, if not more so as Fred! This whole pitying Serena and trying to appeal to her kind nature is just getting boring to watch.

I'm hoping season 3 is better...much better.

The Screenplay Writers.
17 February 2024
How the writers are still getting work I'll never know. Just to put it into perspective, they also wrote Morbius, the Power Rangers movie, and a whole host of god awful movies that bombed in the box office.

Why did Sony think it was a good idea to hire them? They clearly have no clue how to write a decent screenplay, and the recent reviews provides even more evidence of this.

I wanted to like this movie. I've only rated it a 6/10 because I feel bad for the actors having to work with a shoddy screenplay...they deserved better!

The movie sets up a sequel, but tbh I don't think we'll actually get to see it, which is both shame and a blessing.

Sony. Stop hiring these incompetent writers!

Reacher: ATM (2023)

Season 2
4 January 2024
A great first episode. Reacher is back with a bang...or so I thought.

I haven't read them myself, but from reading the other reviews, I'm assuming season 2 remains loyal to the books, which is great. However, for a TV series, I felt that season 2 is just too soon to introduce Reacher's team. I really wanted another season of just the big, bad, lone wolf. They still could've incorporated flashback's, but the series so far is heavily focused on Reacher's team, which I feel takes away a lot of potential character development.

I'm hoping the next few episodes focuses more on just Reacher, but the way episode 5 finished, I don't expect it will.

Karma.
30 November 2023
Justice was served. The 3 biggest snakes got what was coming to them. This was my favourite episode so far - just because of the people that deserved to go, did.

The three cretins who all had 2 things in common needed to go. The morale of the story - be a good person and do things for the right reasons.

Whether it's stealing somebody's food, forging an alliance to vote someone out, or using your position of power to better yourself......karma will come for you.

The girl alliance is a bit pathetic - which is why none of them will win the game.

Be humble. Be respectful. Play alone.

Sign me up for season 2.

Nightmare On Dare Street
20 September 2023
We need a prequel or a series - that follows the group on their many urban legend debunking missions.

"The Haunted Amusement Park"

On a crisp autumn evening, the members of "Nightmare On Dare Street" gathered in their makeshift studio, surrounded by the eerie glow of computer screens and the flickering light of candles. Kevin, the group's enigmatic leader, had called for an emergency meeting.

"Alright, team," Kevin began, his voice brimming with excitement. "I've got a lead on our next big adventure."

Izzy, the group's tech wizard, raised an eyebrow. "What's the story this time, Kevin?"

Kevin leaned in, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Ever heard of the old abandoned amusement park just outside town? Legend has it that it's haunted by the ghost of the former owner, Mr. Hargrove, who died under mysterious circumstances."

Matty, the skeptic of the group, chuckled. "Haunted amusement parks? Really, Kevin?"

But Kris, the fearless daredevil, chimed in. "I'm up for it! Imagine the views we'd get on YouTube if we could capture real ghostly activity!"

Chloe, the group's historian, nodded in agreement. "There's a lot of history surrounding that place. It could be a goldmine of urban legends waiting to be explored."

"Alright, Kevin," Izzy said with a mischievous grin. "We're in. Let's see if we can debunk this ghost story once and for all."

With their equipment ready and their hearts pounding with anticipation, the "Nightmare On Dare Street" team embarked on their next adventure, unaware of the chilling encounters, unexpected twists, and newfound friendships that awaited them in the dark, eerie corridors of the haunted amusement park.

Little did they know that this would be the beginning of their journey into the world of urban legends and the supernatural, setting the stage for the harrowing events that would subsequently lead them to the "Elevator Game".

Awesome!
31 August 2023
Some of these bad reviews are just laugh out loud laughable. It's so obvious that some of these people haven't even watched the movie. I even read one that said the CGI was bad! Now that in itself is proof that that particular has not actually seen the movie, because the CGI is actually near flawless. It was probably some of the best CGI I've seen in recent years. It's so frustrating that people review bomb particular movies based on which comic book studio they originate from!

Anyways, back to my review. It was action packed, heartfelt and funny. The characters were all very likeable and cast well. My only criticism is that it went on a little longer than it needed to, but that's what all comic book movies do.

Beth ruined the series.
4 June 2023
It was all going so well, but it feels like the writers lost their way after season 2.

Season 3 onwards just becomes mainly about politics, with a really annoying grown lady acting like a spoilt child in the middle of it all.

I really liked Beth in season 1 and some of season 2; however, her hate for Jamie, coupled with her annoying baby voice, bad attitude, and smutty behaviour, just makes her completely unlikeable. I've never rooted for the demise of a character so much!

Season 4 is just an absolute mess in terms of continuity, with the unnecessary reappearance, and disappearance of certain characters just to complete their story arc. It feels as if the writers just gave up on certain characters, and didn't really know what to do with them.

Season 5 isn't going too well either. The remnants of season 3 and 4 are still echoing throughout, with again a heavy focus on politics and Beth......yawn.

Such a shame!
3 April 2023
A haunted house underwater!

It had all the ingredients for a very original horror movie. However, the execution was an absolute catastrophe.

The plot itself was actually ok, but it was quickly overshadowed by the very poor acting abilities of the two main characters.

As it was set underwater, the characters were wearing full scuba gear, so of course you can't really see their facial expressions to feel what they're experiencing.......and this is where they messed up big time!

Instead of putting a microphone inside the scuba gear, they recorded the dialogue separately, and it's actually god awful!

It was bad enough that the male character was putting on some sort of English/Australian accent, but hearing them both panting and saying unnecessary and ridiculous things just ruined the whole experience.

What a missed opportunity.

"I would kill for a place like this"
10 January 2023
Perhaps people didn't understand the movie because it's above their level of understanding. I thought it was genius!

I enjoyed every second and it kept me guessing the entire time!

Greta was a slightly annoying character, but I guess there always has to be one antagonist.

Winona Ryder was awesome. I adore her reactions and expressions, she really makes you feel for the character.

There was a very brief moment where I had to make sense of the ending, but all fell into place when I remembered some of the things Kath had said about escaping the noise etc.

This movie isn't a 10/10, but it's in no way a 5/10 or under.

If people actually paid attention to the plot then the ending would've made sense to them.

Great Series!
8 January 2023
Overall the series was great!

The characters were awesome and I loved the friendship between Leo and Roger. I actually wish we got to see more of their past adventures.

Giancarlo Esposito is absolutely mesmerising! I could watch him all day. He plays the part of a master thief/devoted husband and father like a walk in the park!

Ava is an awesome character and her loyalty and devotion to Leo is perfectly executed!

Bob (Jai Courtney) plays the part extremely well....so well in fact, that I hated him!

I watched them in chronological order as follows: Violet, Green, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Red, Pink, White.

I understand that you can watch them in any order apart from the last episode being, White.

But I would argue that Pink should've been the final episode.....minus one or two scenes.

I don't understand why people have rated this a 1/10......it isn't. I would've scored it a 10/10 if it wasn't for Nazan the very annoying and unlikeable FBI agent.

I get with series/movies like this, you have to have an antagonist, but you still need to make things believable. Her entire motivation was getting revenge on Ava......ok, fine; however, there were a number of things that she did that if it were to happen in real life, she would've been sacked at the very least. I feel like the writers didn't know whether to make her the protagonist or the antagonist and just went with both, which just confused things and made her unlikeable.

Having said that, I really enjoyed the series.

Alan Wake?
3 January 2023
This was such an awesome first episode! The writers are clearly fans of the game Alan Wake and have taken inspiration from both the character himself and the fictional town in which the game is set. It honestly felt like I was watching an Alan Wake movie at times and as a huge fan of the game, this was not a bad thing at all.

The characters are all really likeable so far and the acting is brilliant. I'm on episode 4 now, but wanted to leave this review before I binge watch the rest of the season.

The only negative is that I would've liked to see more of the town in the first few episodes as they've done such a good job with making it so eerie, it's a shame we haven't seen more.

American Horror Story: Final Girl (2019)
Season 9, Episode 9

I don't understand!
2 January 2023
These 10/10 reviews must be written by bots!

This was not only the worst season of AHS ever, but the final episode was probably one of the worst I've ever seen in any series period!

The plot was absolute mess from start to finish! There was no continuity or consistency with the characters and no real development.

In one episode a character would go from being portrayed as a villain to being a hero in the next.....it was honestly exhausting to keep up with.

As a horror fan, I'm a fan of gore; however, when someone gets stabbed or murdered every few seconds, it kinda loses it's shock factor and just becomes repetitive and boring.

Also including a real serial killer as one of the characters is just really distasteful and quite disrespectful to the families of his victims.

Season 9 - Utterly Distasteful!
2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure why people have rated season 9 so highly....perhaps I'm missing something!

Sure, it was nostalgic to watch a horror set in the 1980's and there were noticeable nods to some classic horror movies; however, the plot is an absolute mess!

I also don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to include Richard Ramirez as one of the characters.

Portraying him as some sort of superhuman entity, brought back to life by Satan does a great injustice to the families of the people he raped and murdered!

In essence, by depicting him in anything other than a documentary, you're glorifying what he did.

The writers should be ashamed of themselves!

Black Adam (2022)

It could've been better.
26 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've only rated it a 10 because I don't think it deserves all of the hate.

It wasn't perfect by a long shot and felt a little rushed and disjointed in parts, but it did have some really good action sequences too. It definitely fits in with the Shazam universe, but I honestly don't see how it's going to merge with the Snyders vision.

Albeit Superman's cameo was absolutely epic; however, by them using the classic superman theme music, makes me think that WB have no intention of carrying on Snyder's superman, which really sucks.

The Rock was awesome. I would've liked to see a bit more of his story prior to becoming Black Adam, but I guess that what we get when Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are executive producers.

Having said that, now that those two clowns have been sacked and James Gunn is in charge, I'm confident we'll get to see the best of DC.

The Lie (2018)

Wait.......what!?
1 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've just finished this movie and I am literally lost for words. What a ridiculously unbelievable plot.

You mean to tell me that she lied about her murdering her friend to cover for her, so that she could spend time with her boyfriend. You also mean to tell me that she kept the lie going in an attempt to get her parents back together. I love Blumhouse, but this has to be a joke surely?

There also weren't any likeable characters. You need at least one to make a movie enjoyable to watch.

The only good thing about the movie was the acting. Although, the daughters character was so spoilt and selfish, it made it unbearable to watch in parts.

This is where I eat humble pie.
19 August 2022
I didn't have very high expectations after seeing the trailers, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the first episode!

Tatiana Maslany is awesome! She's a pleasure to watch and really plays the part well.

I think so many people have been put off watching this because of the CGI, but it looks like they've actually improved it since making the trailers. It isn't a perfect by a long shot, but it doesn't impact on the story or character.

I'm more a DC fan, but I have to say She-Hulk is really enjoyable.

This is how you do it!
2 April 2022
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from a third instalment made 33 years after the sequel, but wow! I was very pleasantly surprised!

The movie hit all the right notes of nostalgia without trying too hard and provided a refreshing plot without deviating too far from the first two movies.

Making Spengler the heart of the movie was nothing short of genius and a beautiful tribute Harold Ramis. One of the final scenes with him was actually really touching.

There are two end credit scenes too, which are awesome!

Really fun and entertaining!
2 January 2022
The people that have rated this movie a 1/10 clearly need to get a sense of humour.

This movie did exactly what it said on the tin. It was lighthearted, fun and very entertaining.

I loved all of the characters especially the ranger. If you want a easy to watch, entertaining movie, then this is for you.

Do not listen to the haters!
30 December 2021
The only people that dislike this movie are those who dislike Jordan Peele.

This movie is by far one of the best horror sequels to date. The way it ties in to the original is nothing short of genius!

The acting is phenomenal and the plot is incredible!

People who describe this movie as 'woke' are clearly upset because it depicts reality.

Elves (2021)

Am I missing something?
9 December 2021
Why all the hate for the series? What are people expecting from a movie about Elves!? Honestly. The acting was great IMO. People have poorly rated this series because they found Jose to be annoying due to her running and off and not listening to her parents......but guess what, that's exactly what kids do!

I've rated this a 10 because I thought it was excellent for what it was (a series about forest elves). If you're expecting Oscar worthy performances then you're obviously looking in the wrong place. This series was a fun, Christmas themed horror. The plot was great, the characters were likeable and the CGI was actually pretty impressive.

Don't be put off by these clowns giving it a low rating.

A refreshing horror!
20 November 2021
It's so nice to see a movie with older actors as the main cast. The acting was great and I loved the relationship between Judith and her grandson. Overall the plot was pretty good. It could've been better in parts, but I was gripped the entire time. I also loved the ending! It was a refreshing twist! Don't listen to the ridiculous poor reviews. I don't what people are expecting from a horror movie these days.

Ruined by the ending.
16 November 2021
It started off pretty good and each episode ended on cliff hanger, which made me want to watch it all the more. But the final twist and big reveal was just so so bad and completely unbelievable. I also don't understand the whole cult thing....they didn't really explain that part very well. Such a shame.

What an awesome movie!
25 October 2021
If you like slow paced thrillers, then this movie is definitely for you.

Leto was awesome. He gave me the creeps and played the part so well.

The relationship between Washington and Malek was amazing. They bounced off each other and made the movie for me. I could definitely see a series just based on those two investigating crimes.

I wouldn't listen to the poor reviews. These people clearly have no idea what a good movie is and have obviously missed the point.

Disappointing
12 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I had such high hopes for this movie, but it just fell flat. This isn't a movie about the making of Tony Soprano like the ads and trailers lead you to believe. It's a story about racial tensions in Newark in the 1970's and nothing more. Michael Gandolfini did an awesome job at playing a young Tony, but we only got to see him a handful of times, which was a shame. What the heck was up with the Frank Lucas scene too? Talk about pointless and making no sense!

With a better director and writer, this movie could've been great. Unfortunately it was far from it.
