The Fate of the Furious (2017)
Pros and Cons will define The Fate of this Franchise
Before you go any further please be advice, there are major Spoilers ahead.
My IMDb list since the 4th one, Fast & Furious 9/10, Fast 5 10/10, Furious 6 9/10, Furious 7 10/10 and The Fate of the Furious 8/10, you see what i mean?
Pros:
1: The action is unbelievable 2: The shots are stunning, the movie looks amazing. 3: The hole New York scene it's incredible, Cypher controlling the cars, Toretto going against his own team, shooting Shaw to later find out it was all set up, how Toretto points and the Cypher Henchman when he threats Letty, and come on Toretto taking all of his crew down, even Hobbs. 4: When Roman says "Brian would know what to do", that line was incredible, because in the end Brian can do much more than Hobbs when it come to Dom. And finishing with Letty saying "No, we'll not get Brian and Mian in this, that was the deal" that was beautiful. And come on, he names his son Brian? Amazing. 5: The Riot prison scene with Hobbs braking every arm and Shaw doing the same escaping from Hobbs and jail, totally Awesome. 6: How amazing is Charlize Theron in it? she looks so dominating, so evil, so bad ass, with that hair style, and doesn't take s**t from Toretto, his first mistake and shot Elena (Yes Elena dies, it broke my heart), and of course doesn't take s**t from anybody. 7: Like the other films, Roman doesn't disappoint, he can still make us laugh out loud, and messing with the new kid Nobody , Jr. (Scott Eastwood), it was a great touch. 8: I love Kurt Russell's power in this films, hi clears the path so Hobbs and Shaw escape from prison and unites them, kind of a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and Shaw hates Cypher, she did something terrible to his family. 9: Helen Mirren is in the film, Amazing, and plays the Shaw's brothers mom, and Toretto sets up Deckard's dead with her so he can trace Cypher 's plane and save his child, in return he gives them Cypher, and Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) appears here, Yeah. That plane scene totally kicked ass. 10: And come on, the Antartic scene (that actually is in Russia in the film) with the submarine, the soldiers, Toretto fighting back the Cypher henchmen, and helps his team Finnally.
Cons: 1: The absence of Brian O'Conner it's really there, no matter what they do, even when they put Hobbs as the leader, bring Shaw with them and a new kid played by Scott Eastwood to the Team, but still, as i said before, when Roman says "Brian would know what to do", that really make us say "We really miss Brian". 2: I can see them taking down terrorists and everything, but now it's like they are the ones who can stop a World War 3? really? it's like the producers are doing something over theirs heads but they are still amazingly stop it. 3: Letty it's better than 2 train Russian soldiers bigger than her? Roman with a car door and a pistol took down like 5 soldiers in the ice? when did they receive all their special training? way over their heads. 4: Hobbs and Elena were really good friends, and we don't see closer with them, like Hobbs going to her funeral, or saying a few words about her, but they showed him getting mad about Shaw's "death" because they shared a laugh?, i mean really? 5: Dom is Thor or Goku? or maybe God?, because they are now trying to tell us trough out the hole movie that he's kind of a superhero or something, stuffs like "You don't know Dom", "I give Dominic Toretto" after everything that happened in Russia like he can do that with his eyes close, or when he says to Cypher "you should kiss my son, because he's the only reason why you, your plain, your security, your men are still on this earth", I mean come on, Really? so if something happens to his son, him alone it's gonna take down a huge terrorist that with a single bottom can disintegrate him? and she takes those words like "Omg, i think i'm going to die", that's completely full of s**t. And his hole team was struggling to terminate a lot of soldiers in the ice and him with a single car takes them all down in a minute? they are showing him like something more than Hobbs, Shaw and Cypher, this are guys with special training, years in the business, huge terrorists, but Dominic Toretto it's much betters than them, of course he is the star and we love Toretto, but guys try to make it much better. 6: The last one and i thing the worst one, this hole franchise keeps telling us something about Dominic Toretto, he is all about family, you mess with his family and your mess with God apparently, so OK all those things i named before that he can do, being Goku and stuff, so when Deckard Shaw killed Han, almost killed Brian, Mian and their son, almost killed Elena and Hobbs, almost kills him for crying out loud, and in the end of the film he salutes him like an old friend? this is the guy that almost kills Hobbs because he was going to arrest Mia, almost killed Brian when he found out he put Letty against Braga, but with Shaw just says "i made the right choice", and now Shaw it's part of the team? and that's the other thing they exaggerate, Toretto's charm, now in the 9th or 10th Cypher will be in the team to?. Not cool people.
Logan (2017)
The Most Epic Conclusion of a Superhero
I have seen all the superhero movies out there, from Marvel, Dc, Dark Horse, etc, and i love them. But of all the movies, i think this is the most epic conclusion of a character in the superhero genre.
If you haven't seen the film please be advice, "Big Spoilers Ahead".
In comparison of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Verse, i love the MCU a lot more, because i like all the films in it, in the X-Verse most of them where great, some of then not, and the first two Wolverine films are in that list of not that good. I say that because they are reborn with "Logan" and it's very sad that the best film of this amazing character is the last (as we know of) Hugh Jackman X-Men film.
We see a more human Wolverine and Xavier that we've seen in all the films, they struggle with issues of getting old, alcoholism, depression, parenthood, (talking about Laura and Logan and why not Xavier with Logan and Laura) loneliness, we even see Logan with a part time job, which i think was an amazing detail for the movie. And of course we love to see this guys, this heroes, as that exactly, Heroes, like Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Peter Parker and of course Logan, but we can't forget that they are still human beings, sure the mutants are not categorize as human but more advance than us, or a mistake from god like they say in this movie, but still with all the human elements, and to depict this things in a superhero movie, making us see that they can be hurt, they have feelings, they have issues and problems like we all do, was and beautiful way to move us and make us love all them a lot more. To see the magnificent Charles Xavier, the guy with the greatest and most powerful mind in the Marvel comics, with a brain degeneration disease, like Dr. Zander Rice played by Richard E. Grant says in the film and quote "the guy with the most powerful brain has a brain degeneration disease? that's a great combo isn't it?".
Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart give the most heart warming performances in this characters, to imagine that powerful Xavier in the X-Men films and now been a sweet lonely nonagenarian it's something that really got to me, made me cry since the beginning of the film. And of course the Jackman himself, that gigantic (metaphorically speaking) Wolverine now with this characteristics i just describe it's heart warming-wrenching, he is tired, he doesn't run and fight like he used to, he can't regenerate as fast as before, and when he does leaves a scar in his body, leaving a scar in our hearts, and now he has to take care the old Xavier and a child, His Child, making the movie more realistic in the surrealism.
Why i say is the most epic conclusion?. It is known that when an actor leaves his superhero character it's because he gets fired (Andrew Garfield), he gets tired of the role (Wesley Snipes), he doesn't come back for the sequel (Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer), there is no conclusive film (Ron Perlman) or the last movie really sucked (George Clooney, Wesley Snipes again, Ryan Reynolds twice, Tobey Maguire) you get the idea. But to see an actor leaving his costume in his own terms it's something to be proud of.
This is not just and epic conclusion for Jackman, for Wolverine as well. Big Spoiler: He dies yes, but he dies with his daughter besides him, it 's amazing that the only one who could killed him was a younger self, of course the only thing that can kill Wolverine it's freaking Wolverine, he goes giving a great advice to his child, with tears in his eyes, and a beautiful heart wrenching final line, quote "So this is what it feels like", long overdue man, but finally at peace, only true fans could really appreciate those words.
This is a Masterpice, and you won't regret watching it 10 times.
The Space Between Us (2017)
Romantic Settings Are Everywere
Romantic movies are now a cliché, the guy or girl who have to fight for the girl or guy, the weird kid who loves the most beautiful girl, an impossible love, etc, etc, etc. But when you do that in the perfect romantic setting, that's the money right there, this time it's a long way from a martian kid to an earthling girl, now that is original. The literally impossible love made possible by human technology.
This is the story of a kid who was born in Mars who likes a girl from earth, and he does the impossible making the trip to earth to find that girl he loves. Romantic ideas are really dying? Maybe, but that helps writers to make this unlikely romantic setting. It is a very entertaining Science fiction teen romance, the thing is, how are romantic writers gonna top this?
I have only one complain, Gary Oldman is the most experience and talented actor in this film, and sometimes i felt he was overacting, why is that? why?. But non the less, it's a good film. Good job Peter Chelsom.
Pelé: Birth of a Legend (2016)
Ginga or Joga Bonito, both mean: Pelé
I grew up watching Football, i loved it and i still do, and of course i love my nation (Venezuela), but you just can't denied that you like Brasil for their style of playing, their amazing Joga Bonito, it's just masterful and beautiful that makes you think, can i do that?, there are 2 correct answers: you work all day, every day for a very long time to accomplish it, or just wait until another life and born with it like Pelé.
This is the guy that every Football player looks up to at least one time in their life, and of course for us Fottball lovers to know there is a movie about this legend it's like saying, there is a movie about Michael Jackson and you think: They better don't mess it up, because he is the best in the business and he deserves it. Trust me they have done it right in this film, the kid playing Pelé is really good with his ginga (freestyle of playing) and does honor to the man himself, he really capture the essence of what he means to every fan, player and Brazilian in the world. Makes me think, can he have Pelé's blood, yes he does, but not by family, but by nationality, they just have it in them.
The movie it's solid in the cinematography, it really shows the feeling of the country and their culture and the sport itself, the casting made me think some times about overacting, but i just forget about it and kept watching a great film. What i really loved is that Ginga is explained and gives real knowledge of what it means, it's now that they call it Joga Bonito, but they are the same: One amazing player. Donpt believe me? just take a good look yourself this movie and experience what Soccer (that's how Americans call it) it's really about, and you will have the most amazing teacher, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or as is best known: Pelé.
Split (2016)
The Return of the Night Shyamalan
After The Village, The Happening, The Visit, and other failures, finally M. Night Shyamalan is back with a great film that make you feel terrified, excited, intrigued and bunch of other mix feelings. He wrote an amazing story about a guy with a deranged mind, a mind that makes place for 24 different people, and he gave that responsibility to James McAvoy, and he really nailed that role. Every person he plays does it with such grace, they look so masterfully researched characters, every detail in the walking, moving, speaking, looking, just everything it's amazing, i really think he deserves some kind of acting award because if it's not easy to enter the mind of another person (speaking with experience as a fellow actor), imagine entering the mind of a split personality guy, that's award season deserving.
Anya Taylor Joy also gives a great interpretation. I have a few complains but not to big to make the movie suck.
I could really see the movie again and maybe a third time, go see it you won't waste your time. Shyamalan and McAvoy give really good work for us to enjoy.
Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)
Franchise Phobia
I have a new disease in me, i call it Franchise phobia, you don't know what you're gonna get by watching the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, etc, etc ,etc, installment on a very known and very respected movie franchise. Take The Fast and the Furious for example, yeah, they are very explosive, they lie right through your face, but they are always looking the next best thing in each movie. AND lets be reasonable, you can't expect an Oscar worthy film when you are going to see the 5th or 7th film, you know they are packed with extreme bad word of dog's excrement, but WE LIKE IT.
Know lets circle back to Underworld, the first two films were amazing, the 3rd not to much, but the 4th and 5th are the same dog's... you get the idea... Of course it's worth watching it because of Kate Beckinsale (MY GOOOOD), and that's worth a 4 point review and the other point it's for the entire movie, and i was really hoping for an amazing film, but left with a dog's... taste in my mouth (not you Selene of course GOOOOOOD), after that i felt like if i was sick, but not physically sick, Franchise Phobia Sick, PLEASE STOP MAKING SEQUELS THAT SUCK, YOU ARE RUINING MY CHILDHOOD. PD: Kate Beckinsale, you are the best.
Zoolander 2 (2016)

PD: Don't watch it, you will cut your eyes out.
The Soloist (2009)
Mr. Foxx and Mr. Downey, Jr.
Lots of times i see a film after i see the rating on Rotten Tomatoes or maybe reading a review without spoilers. I did it with this film and saw it already thinking it's bad, and that's the last time i do that, i really enjoyed this film, not a 10 but maybe re-watchable.
Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. give solid acting, even when particularly i don't like Mr. Foxx to much, except for Ray of course, i think he should keep playing real life musicians, and Mr. Downey, Jr. had just started with the MCU, so ironically he's playing a guy who helps another guy (Mr. Foxx) to get back on his feet when himself is starting to do so in real life in 2008-09, and does it really great (in the movie and in real life). Also with a good script and good secondary acting by Mrs. Keener. I give it a 7, it's not that high but it's really good compared to the other critics. Please see it, you won't waste your time.
Blood Father (2016)
Oh Bloody Mel
It has been a long time since we don't see a good performance by Mel Gibson (The Beaver?? let's not get into that)
The movie is very solid, it's a combination between taken and a more psychopathic Edge of Darkness. He really gets me to believe that he loves his daughter, and the chemistry between him and Erin Moriarty, who plays Lydia, it's truly remarkable. Not saying that they deserve an A for the acting, but close enough.
Now let's get into the action business, SHALL WE? this guy can still throw a punch and shoot a gun like a bad ass, when he does it, i can't tell how old is he, he still does it like that Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon ONE, and come on, building up and with the beard and tattoes: THE ULTIMATE BAD ASS. Look out Stallone and Arnie, there's a new old action star back in business (Mr. Bruce "McClane" Willis, you really need a good comeback).
Highly recommended, great Mel, Veeery Bloody that Father.
