Surprisingly good!

I am no Batman fan, so I watched this because it was marketed as a stand-alone film. The performance by Joaquin Phoenix was mesmerizing and haunting, and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

The Boy (I) (2015)

A psychological gem
1 September 2015
I would advise viewers to ignore most of the critic reviews on this one. I was engrossed from start to finish. There are no car chases and no fancy plot twists, but The Boy is a thoroughly enthralling film about a young boy who not only is dealing with a lot of boredom living at and running a remote motel with his father, but is also experiencing a good deal of anger and angst over the fact that his mother left them.

The actors were outstanding, and I was impressed by the character development. Some have complained that the movie is "too slow," but I think the pace captures the boy's experience quite well, and offers up chilling dinner table fodder. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a solid psychological thriller.

Bored to tears
21 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie bored me out of my ever loving skull. Not only could I see the plot twist from the start, I was mad when it turns out I was right. This was a ripoff from Jacob's Ladder.

Be that at is may, let's discuss the movie itself. Let's see....every 15 minutes or so I paused it to do something else. Not exactly engrossing. The movie was pretty much a guy stuck in a house and not having a good time of it. The ghoul was just stupid. I guess because I had figured it out from the beginning made it all excruciatingly boring for me. Not worth the one star I gave it. And slap the people who made it. They ripped off a classic.

Tarantino scores again!
26 July 2013
Was not sure what to expect from this movie, but was completely enthralled from start to finish. Anyone who loves Tarantino films will love this one. Not one boring moment, that's for sure.

I'd say go for the ride. The characters are interesting, as per usual in Tarantino films. Samuel L. Jackson was an interesting villain, and he did an extraordinary job with the role.

As others have written, it's messy in parts, and sometimes very funny. I love the bounty hunter sidekick who "trains" Django.

I hate IMDb for wanting me to go on and on for a minimum of 10 lines. I've written what I want to say about this film. Please!

Can't believe people liked this movie

I was SO bored and SO disappointed. What a waste of a Friday evening. Nothing new in this movie that you haven't seen in Alien, and the Alien series was so much better. Where Alien was fresh and sometimes humorous, this movie was nothing but cliché with some painfully acted scenes that I suppose were expected to pass for "drama." If you have a shopping list to complete, you can do it during the movie, and don't look for any satisfaction at the end. I'm amazed this movie got such good ratings. What a waste of time. It was so bad. I suggest Charlize Theron not do any more Ridley Scott movies. Her character was one-dimensional and silly. The ending of the movie certainly set it up for a sequel (much like Alien) but please, Ridley, spare us. As much as you might want to re-create your Alien empire, you've failed with this. I'd rather get stabbed in the eye than watch a sequel to this movie.
