Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Those Old Scientists (2023)
Oh my goodness, what a fan treat.
What a pleasent surprise. So far I have been enjoying this new series, I hope it lives long and prospers. I hadn't watched the cartoon Lower Decks, tried and just went on to something else. When this episode started as a cartoon I thought I was watching the wrong show. Then realized they did a crossover. And thought, oh no, did it jump the shark? NO! What a brilliant little episode. Probably going to have to go back to Lower Decks and revisit. Well now I have to fill up like 130 more characters, so maybe I should try to write a limerick.. There once was a science officer named Spock, who had a red mark on his.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
A boring reboot.
I see others wonder what it is lacking. Well the humor and absurdity of the other films for one. Only thing this has in common is the book, the audio recording and a chainsaw. Buckets of blood, but that isn't enough to hold the story. The characters are flat, not much likeable about them to root for. Special effects were good, but that isn't enough. It was a waste of the evil dead franchise.
I would have rather seen another Rami/Campbell. OK, if not those 2 a good story... This wasnt. Find book and audio, let the blood commence, typical ending. I hope they don't make a second part and just let ED die if you can't make it as good or better than the originals.
The Artifice Girl (2022)
What a pleasant surprise.
I normally toss stuff on a 2nd monitor and keep it on as background noise and usually get the gist of the picture. I quickly realized this looks like something low budget, and that's going to be heavy on dialog. I was pretty quickly impressed. Very well done for limited use sets without feeling claustrophobic. The direction, editing, color correction, writing, the whole process came together and thought the actors all did an incredible job. AI is fascinating to me so I enjoyed the story. I rated it a 10, not because it is Citizen Kane, but because it was in my opinion in it's own way along with I was still thinking about it the next day. I watch so many films, I like when I can still think about the film the next day.
Pistol (2022)
I give it a 1. Johnny Rotten was not consulted or informed.
I have a problem with taking just Steve Jones book at face value, but to not even include or notify JR I have a problem with. I got into them and punk in the early to mid 80s... Their music love them or hate them to me was just good music, for the time, for the period, and it inspired generations. Glad they didn't overdo their time on Sid. I love Danny Boyles work, it would have been great if he could have really worked with the band to get a true portrayal. I am sure he was left out because he was very vocal all his life and I suspect they didn't want production delays and rewrites. I think Boyle missed an opportunity, make the movie and intersperse a he said she said narrative if needed. But this was really a disappointment. I really have a sour taste in my mouth for Danny Boyle now. You could have done so much better to get the band together for a truer narrative.

The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Little did I know what I was getting into.
Saw the option on Netflix didn't interest me, but word of mouth. So put it on as background noise and was instantly hooked. Extremely well done, and I know nothing about chess, nor do I have the patience for. There were moments where it felt like a 90 minute movies, but they pulled it off over multiple episodes, just extremely well done along with an amazing cast of actors.
Vivarium (2019)
You are either going to love it or hate it or have no idea where you stand.
I guess people aren't understanding it. And I am sure there are things I didn't pick up. So spoiler: Just my interpretation. The opening is of a parasite. It uses other animals/creatures to rear their young.
They were abducted, forced to raise the young. Aliens? When she starts falling into other houses, she is seeing the same tactic, being forced to raise the child and the process repeats. We know one is used to abduct these people, but the intentions of the others are unknown. I enjoyed the mood of it.
McMillions (2020)
Get to the darn point.
Interesting story that could be told in 3 episodes, or 90 min to 2hrs. They are milking it.
Messiah (2020)
Credit where credit is due. Great writing about subjects that can be volatile.
I was glued. Dealing with people religious beliefs is tricky. Somehow this series managed to weave it in. OK Whens season 2? Are we there yet? WOW! And great job with the FX. They pulled it off. Cast, crew. That was a top notch adventure. Season 2 please... Are we there yet? Hurry up.
Lost in Space (2018)
Beautiful and ugly at the same time.
I remember watching reruns of the original as a kid and enjoyed it, Dr. Smith was the show stealer.
I watched the movie in the 90s and it wasn't incredible, but it was pretty good.
This incarnation is beautiful to look at, CGI, costumes but the story and characters are lacking.
First off Will is a terrible actor, I can't stand the kid. Dr. Smith is just terrible. The rest of the cast is meh.
If it doesn't come back for season 2, I really won't care.
Dragnet 1967: The Big High (1967)
Sorry Bill.
Sorry Bill, it took 50 years but in 2 days California will have legal recreational "like liquor, packaged and taxed and sold right off the shelf." marijuana!
Having known many people who smoke over my 47 years of life, I have never known someone to accidentally drown their baby. This episode reminded me of Refer Madness.
Although these are based on true stories, i'd really like to know "the facts" of what this story was based off of. But I guess it could happen, I once forgot a pizza in the oven.
Mother! (2017)
How does this have a 7.0?
It started off pretty good, you knew something was going on, I saw others mention Rosemarys Baby, yea it felt similar. This movie went on 45 minutes longer than it needed to and still wouldn't have saved it.
I think people rated JL's breasts, definitely not this movie.
I still really do not get the ending, I will have to look up other peoples interpretations. On second thought, I don't care and I won't. Her BF is the director which is why she probably got stuck in this muck of a film.
I do have to say JL's performance is 10/10, too bad the movie is a 3/10.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
This thing sucked alien balls.
Went in with an open mind, I really like Ridley Scotts films, Blade Runner, Aliens, etc... But this thing sucked. I really miss the days of models used in film making, the CGI was poop, the story was boring poop. I really hope he doesn't plan on making more Aliens films, time to bury it for about 15 years.
