Manchester by the Sea (2016)
finding hope in Manchester-By-The-Sea
EN: "Manchester By The Sea" brings to mind despite its heavy themes, a nice place I've recently visited, Carmel-By-The-Sea. Though the movie seems sad overall, it keeps you hooked by switching between past and present scenes. At first, it's tough to understand the main character's struggles, but as the story unfolds, you start to see the reasons behind his pain. The film encourages you to empathize with him and his experiences. What's special about "Manchester By The Sea" is its uplifting ending. Even though it deals with tough issues, it ends on a positive note, offering hope and healing for those who have faced similar challenges. In short, "Manchester By The Sea" is a moving film that explores grief and resilience, leaving viewers with a sense of optimism despite the sadness.
The Vast of Night (2019)
a trip back to retro sci-fi...
EN: "The Vast of Night" gives off major old-school vibes with its vintage-style cinematography, making it stand out as something unique. It looks like it was made on a tight budget, which adds to its charm. The first 20 minutes had me a bit confused. It didn't seem to fit with the main story and could have been shortened. But once the plot got going, I got hooked by its mysterious feel, similar to "Stranger Things."
Overall, "The Vast of Night" is a fun watch for fans of classic sci-fi and small-town mysteries. . But it didn't leave a big impression on me. It's a nice trip down memory lane, but it didn't blow me away.
Saltburn (2023)
a vibrant satire wrapped in spectacular costumes and sets
EN: "Saltburn" is a fun and sharp look at British high society. The film beautifully highlights the wealth and oddities of British high society, making each scene a fun look at cultural differences, which I really enjoyed. The costumes and sets are also incredible and meticulously crafted to enhance the storytelling. Every detail in the clothing and the backgrounds adds so much to the story and makes everything feel very grand. Watching "Saltburn" was a fantastic experience, and I really hope it comes to cinemas soon. I think seeing it on the big screen would make it even better, letting more people enjoy its great visuals and humor.
Kampen om Narvik (2022)
Family vs. Treason
EN: This one was a decent WW2 movie focused more on the story of one family than the the real battle for the Norwegian town called Narvik. I would say the production quality is impressive when you look at the very low budget that was allocated. I particularly liked the CGI special effects, the cinematography and the locations where the movie was filmed. The message is a bit confusing at the end, because the unity of the family and the healthcare of the young child can be interpreted as a reason for treason. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the first battle lost by Hitler.
