Depp V Heard (2023)
Insulting My Intelligence
I am entirely sick of the legacy media, and now this "documentary" thinking that I and everyone else on the planet are just a bunch of dummies that are easily manipulated.
I saw the trial. I was an Amber Heard supporter. Then I watched Amber Heard lie and even defend her lies when caught. I watched her and her lawyer insult the intelligence and integrity of the jurors and general public in interviews. Guess what? I didn't believe that Johnny Depp had scissors for hands. I didn't believe he was a pirate or a police officer pretending to be a high school student. People aren't as gullible or easily swayed as they seem to think.
This doc is just the same thing all over again. The poor, stupid general public, we can't possibly understand how we are being manipulated by social media.
All docs inherently have some bias, I get that. But this goes too far for me.
American Anarchist (2016)
The Blame Game
It got old real fast, watching the filmmaker over and over again trying to make his subject feel guilt and responsibility for every instance where there may be some nebulous connection to the Anarchist Cookbook. He wrote the book when he was a teenager, and then spent 40 years working around the world teaching and advocating for children who learn differently. Filmmaker seems to think that he should have spent every spare minute since the advent of the internet looking up acts linked to that book. Boring.
Roman Empire (2016)
Mostly Fiction, Occasional Facts
You have to really look at this show as fiction, not as historically accurate. Despite the talking head historians, this show is at best loosely based on history, playing up the more scandalous rumours and often just making things up.
That said, it's a fairly entertaining watch. Nothing incredible, but kind of a bored-on-a-rainy-Sunday kind of deal.
