Silent Hill (2006)
Ignore the ignorant critics
Ignore the ignorant "professional" critics. This movie is one of the very few movies that is almost completely true to its game counterpart. Most Game to Movie adaptions are terrible and do not even come close to the original game it was based on such as Resident Evil. With this movie however the story almost sticks to the games and the feel, the eeriness, the feeling of hopelessness and terror, it's all very much alive as it was in the games. The actors played very good parts, the amount of gore is spot on, even the way everything changes is perfect to the game. All I can think to say now is "Do not go to Silent Hill"
Don't Blink (2014)
Why did I bother
I dont understand what happened in this movie. Theres absolutely no explanation as to why the events in the movie were even happening. Premise is good, has solid ground for a good movie but sadly between the terrible acting, clunky story telling and poor directing it just doesnt work. Not to mention the terrible ending that doesnt really explain anything at all... I wouldnt waste my time watching and if I could go back in time and stop myself from watching I would. This movie is like the director is fresh out of film school, taken a text book check list of whats needed in a movie and mashed it all together in no particular order.
Truth Seekers (2020)
Deserved a second season
This show has a great atmosphere about it, great mix of mystery and supernatural and an interesting plot. I had to binge watch it after the first episode and I was hooked. So sad to hear they decided not to make a second season. The characters are great and well thought out. There is a slight air of tension in certain parts. Not exactly a comedy like nick and simon would usually do but it makes a good change to see them in something with a bit more of a serious and sinister undertone than the usual. Not everyones cup of tea I guess but I enjoyed it! If nick frost reads this review, please make a second season!
Suits (2011)
Great but a few issues
The show is gripping, addicting and binge worthy. Good characters with good back stories. Sadly one character (louis litt) for me lets it down quite a bit. Nobody behaving the way he does through the course of the show would last very long in a huge law firm so it makes it extremely unbelievable about his character as he is mentally unstable, a giant man child, ruled by emotions and not a very good lawyer to boot. Apart from that the show has real merit! It is a rollercoaster of ups and downs, gives an interesting (of course over dramatised) insight into the workings of american law so I found it very fascinating.
The Ritual (2017)
Underrated
Absolute solid scare. Yes the ending is a little weak but its not THAT bad. Its not just visually scary in places but its also psychological. Hidden gem from the UK!
Hook (1991)
Still my favourite childhood movie
This movie is warm, inviting and all round good family entertainment. I remember seeing it as a child and immediately falling in love with it! I cant see why people have given it mediocre reviews. Nobody can replace Hoffmans portrayal of Hook or Hoskins as Smee, they fit the parts perfectly. Robin Williams brought his usual warmth and glow to the movie! Spielberg heralded it as one of his worst but I do not agree. I find it to have a special place in my heart that makes me feel warm every time I think of one of the most underrated movies of all time: Hook!
Knowing (2009)
Apparently Nic Cage is fire proof...
The premise is good, the acting is terrible, so many details incorrect like the fact if you put your hands close to a fire you are going to get burned... but not Nicholas Cage! Seems he still retains some of his GhostRider abilities! Take this movie with a pinch of salt and its bearable, something to pass the time but by no means a good movie.
Frasier (1993)
Probably my Favourite sitcom
Cheers was great... Frasier... just slightly better imo. Its funny, quirky, smart and sophisticated but it shows that no matter how pompous people can be, they still have plenty of flaws and failings like everyone else. The ensemble of british and american humour and the clashes of personality between 2 upper class "elites" and an ex retired cop make for some extremely hilarious situations as well as touching on some very serious issues. The perfect show.
The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
Can James Wan only direct anything related to Conjuring
The plot was ok, but even the opening sequence was poor. I should have known right there and then what I was in for. Typical attempt at jump scares that really dont come off due to predictability. The usual people dont listen which makes the situation bad and stupid kid does something predictably stupid which makes matters even worse... cliche, dried up and definitely poorly executed. Oh and poor choice of actor to play an exorcist....
Sputnik (2020)
I can see the influences even in some of the music
Its a very good sci-fi horror if you like the alien from outer space genre and this plenty of it but with massive influences from the now cult netflix series Stranger Things simmering underneath the surface from some of the synth background music to the pale slimy teeth covered design of the alien itself, pretty sure they even took the "feed a convict to the monster in a cage" scenes directly from the end of Stranger Things season 3. Still an alright movie and worth a watch even once.
John Henry (2020)
Seriously?
Seriously terry? What are you doing? You are miles better than this movie. I honestly think a home made movie would be better than this crap. Avoid it.
Hubie Halloween (2020)
Very slightly entertaining but no...
Yet another Adam sandler movie where he puts on a fake voice and plays a simpleton.... im not an adam fan at all and this just made my dislike for him even more intense. Go back to acting school and learn how to do something else
As Above, So Below (2014)
Unexpectedly Good!
I am not a fan of the "found footage" sub genre of horror but this movie pleasantly surprised me. It's not a movie for anyone who feels claustrophobic easily or into hack and slash gore fests but for those of you who like a movie with a creepy feel and surrealistic happenings then this movie is for you! Very very refreshing!
The Midnight Gospel (2020)
Hipsters wet dream
All this show is, is 2 people who think they know more than anyone else in the world so try to ramble on about what they think are "Intellectual" topics ranging from religion to science (but its always more about religion and karma and all that mumbo jumbo) while some over the top, try to hard to be out there cartoon plays in the background. I dont pay netflix a subscription fee to have them allow the people who made this hisptery pile of tosh to be able to just babble on about nothing. I would much rather watch ricky gervaises new show After Life
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Should not be a higher critic rating
As fun and fresh as this movie is, I feel it should not have been given a higher critic rating than the 1st movie. I enjoyed it a lot but I enjoyed the old movie more
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Interface (1993)
Oh the rolling barrel
I found this episode to be one of the better episodes revolving around Geordie but what lets it down is the sloppy direction and blatant goof at around 13 minutes when Geordie ( as the probe) walk into the room of dead crew and seems to kick a barrel over to one of the "dead crew" for her to lay on... this should have been spotted and a retake done before release but sloppy directing means a sloppy end product.. shame
