Immortel (ad vitam) (2004)
A bit disappointing movie...
The feeling itself about the movie is really great - all the surrealism and sci-fi. But there's no good idea behind the movie. Nevertheless, I think it's a movie of new era, like The Matrix was. Except that The Matrix (I'st part) was a GREAT movie, with everything perfectly in it's place, and Immortel is something rather cheap.
I kinda liked the acting, but in some places the script is so unbelievable and cheap, that I don't know what to say. All the communication between characters are totally not real, very awkward.
Oh yeah - the "action" parts are totally without any action, like everything is in slow (like very slow) motion. So don't expect any here.
Overall, I would give 6/10. Worth a watch, see for yourself.
By the way - if you like surreal/sci-fi movies - watch "2001: A Space Odyssey", "12 Monkeys" or David Lynch's universe!
Chicago (2002)
Great musical
It's a musical, and a great one too. I enjoyed the plot too, though it wasn't very smart or anything like that. Well the artwork is brilliant most of the times, all that 1920's feeling is very well made.
Great direction too I just love how the scenes of stage performance interlay with acting, it gives you an insight on what's really going on. It makes the movie very relaxing too because you know what's going on, you can be unperturbed on what's going to happen next. According to the plot these murderers must be evil, but not in this movie they are like comics' heroes their evil isn't real, it's like a part of their characters.
It's a very enjoyable movie. You can come to the theatre just to listen characters singing. Oh, by the way characters are very well made. Renée Zellweger was great in her role too, though it's really unusual to see her playing semi-evil character. I think I liked the most Mr. Cellophane played by John C. Reilly. His appearance in the movie is so well arranged.
Though there was one scene which I disliked the one with circus (I mean the place where the advocate sang), it's a silly idea, and poorly directed. But the movie is well worth watching it.
9/10
Breakfast of Champions (1999)
Excellent movie with deep meaning
It is really great movie, I think that it is greatly underrated because most of people came to see it expecting fights, action and bloodshed, but it is not the kind of movie. A bit unusual to see Bruce Willis in such a role, but he's a good actor and done very well here.
The meaning of the movie is more spiritual and psychological than just a mere tangle of various script twists. Lots of things here are symbolical. For example I love the scene where main character misunderstands the words of the wise man, and turns violent.
Oh, and have in mind - the second half of the movie is totally different than the first one, so be patient.
Maybe the book is better - haven't read it, can't say, but judging according to other MOVIES, not books, this one is on my top 5. if you liked this one, I recommennd you also watch Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead; Pi.
