Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Wanda movie with appearances by Strange
Honestly...I never liked Wanda. I hated WandaVision. And here's a whole movie with her whining about her 'kids' (oh but let's forget about Vision in the other universes because...reasons. Guess she doesn't give a rip about him except when she throws his name out there to try and guilt trip Strange).
Never mind Vision would kill her as a villain and she's everything he fought against. It's ALL SBOUT THE KIDS we have no personal attachment to (random nameless kids seen for ten seconds) but somehow are supposed to view them as her entire reason for ripping the universe apart?
And no sorry Wanda mothers don't "use magic to make kids". They use biology. 🙄 That line was so cheese and cringey I couldn't stand it.
Really disappointed.
Loki (2021)
Eh
Love Loki but they seemed to have wuss'ed out his character. Loki isn't just a magician, he's a warrior, who fought first giants and monsters....then in ep2 he gets thrown around by a fat guy in a Wal Mart? I mean...he's Asgardian. Tough, strong- I mean seriously hulk smashed him without killing him. Any human would've been pulverized. Suddenly in this show he can't fight at all??? Lame.
Orlando (1992)
Overpriced student film
I must say-watching it right now-the 4th wall breaks are distracting, and the cutting is....awkward. It's very choppy. And the random modern music ....eh. Oddly most of the sets appear to be faux Victorian....and the plastic pen the poet is using in 1650...? I mean....if you're going to spend millions of dollars, make it a spectacle of fabrics etc...why not even TRY...? Would a starving poet be deliberately rude to his rich patron? Uh...no. Bright, enormous plastic 'jewels' on eeeeeverything.
And sooo much staring. Say a line then stare for a good 10-15 seconds. Staring from different angles. Staring at the camera. Shakey cam. Staring. More shakey can. Running. Staring. Billy Zane with....apparently a 1850 crimped perm. It's... very student film. Student film with a huge budget. Trying to be 'artsy' and just failing. And apparently the epitome of life for a woman is....drumroll HAVING KIDS! Yes SUCH an original movie. 🙄🙄
Private Lives of the Monarchs (2017)
Just Ok
It's tolerable, but...nothing new. Rehashed old news, a presenter that doesn't seem engaged by her subjects, trying desperately to be as interesting and entertaining as Dr Worsley but utterly failing. Instead of Worsley's pure joyful enthusiasm and humour, Borman is a pale imitation-and she really is presented as an attempt to equal Worsley.
And frankly- In the case of Edward VIII- the 'poor old Edward' refrain got old fast. The presenter saying "was visiting Naxi Germany REALLY that bad"? Shows a complete lack of taste, sensitivity and, frankly-understanding.
There are documents, letters that show he threatened suicide when Wallis attempted to disengage from him- that he was giving Germany British intelligence during the war, and even stated to a German official in a letter that Germany should continue bombing civilians, as it would surely bring about British surrender faster. It's ON HISTORICAL RECORD that Hitler offered him the British crown in a German victory, to place his beloved Wallis at his side with her title as Queen. WHY have these facts been ignored? To make Edward seem to be "a bit of a dolt, really just a fashion minded selfish little boy" which utterly die plays the true harm he intended for his country.
The Private Lives of the Tudors (2016)
Nothing but hearsay and old info
'Private Lives' is nothing more than gossip and hearsay dusted off and presented as fact. No in depth research appears to have been done whatsoever. Not taking into account that much were political slurs. Obviously made to create 'historical titillation' and grasp at viewers. The reinactments were fine. Very disappointed considering this woman is a curator at Historic Royal Palaces.
AJ and the Queen (2020)
Could we just have Ruby please?
Frankly, I find the jaded, sarcastic, entitled kid so annoying it ruins the show. I just love Ru and that part of the story- but lord almighty that kid is awful.
