Keep Breathing (2022)
A little slow...and a little frustrating.
I'll start with the positives:
The acting is actually pretty good overall.
I've seen a few people say the main actress is "unliveable" which I disagree with - it was partially the point of her character.
The cinematography and scenery were brilliant! The shots and the difficulty of recording out there would've been crazy!
Negatives:
Like a few people have said, far too many flash backs. I understand what the director was trying to achieve but it really slowed things down, I found myself wanting to fast forward..but I didn't.
It was a little far fetched from a reality point of view.
Without giving anything away, the final episode was soooooo underwhelming, felt like they ran out of budget.
And so many loose ends, which I won't go into detail.
Resident Evil (2022)
How? How do they keep going
And when I mean they I mean trash script writers and trash directors. It has the bones of being amazing, and the execution of a panda.
Are they pandas? Maybe...
Hustle (2022)
Sometimes you just need a feel good movie
Look, it sticks to the basics.
But it does it flawlessly!
Star studded cast from a basketball perspective.
Adam slayed! Perfect viewing for a night in and a glass of wine.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Have you seen Rent? If not...watch it first.
Stand alone - this is ok, it's engaging, moving and the persistence of a struggling artist shines through. The acting is flawless and the music is decent, the adaptation from a theatre musical to the screen is always hard, but I believe the director did a fantastic job.
HOWEVER - if you don't know the back story I can see how it would go over a lot of peoples heads, would highly recommend you accompany this with the musical Rent. It's so powerful.
His Dark Materials (2019)
Finally does justice to the books!
The movie was so bad, but the character development and acting is amazing, the script and the modern spin is awesome!!
It's taken me a while to watch as I love the books, but glad I did.
The Tax Collector (2020)
Watchable trash
So I had this movie on my watchlist when I read that Shia got real tattoos for it... didn't even get to see the damn tattoos hahaha
Overall watch this movie when you want a dumb action movie that's a bit slow to start with but picks to a solid walking pace by the end.
Watches like a day time small screen movie...anyhoo...
I Care a Lot (2020)
This movie made me feel uncomfortable..on purpose
I believe it successfully achieved what it set out to do, made me feel anger towards this person who was swindling people out of their life savings! Torturing them and holding them hostage.
It happens in real life. And well if they wanted me to hate the antagonist they did so a little TOO well to the point I nearly wanted to stop watching.
The end was a bit daft and the second half and bit of an anticlimax. I think they ran out of budget and time...anyway wouldn't watch it again.
Annihilation (2018)
Tried too hard to be deep by using scientific terminollogy
This movie will probably annoy anyone with a mediocre understanding of scientific principles and methods.
Visually it was amazing, and i quite enjoyed it. But the suspense and build up were lacking, the acting was ok. Not bad, but not amazing. And i felt there were a number of unanswered questions.
It tried to hard to be deep and there by lost a but of the story and flow that a movie should have. Is not quite sure if thriller, action, drama, sci-fi or which direction it was going.
Overall an ok attempt, but the pain is how much unfulfilled potential it has.
War Machine (2017)
Its good....but not amazing..but good
It starts off like any other grand American propaganda style US military movie. Enter the tall, good looking white male protagonist against the crappy third world foreign nation who deserve a war they never asked for.
The underlying political narrative that the movie plays on really hits home towards the middle. I felt it was a bit slow to start with, but it does grip you enough to get through it.
The end felt a bit lacking, the whole movie was building up to a grand finale which never really came. It kind of fizzled out.
Nonetheless it has a few jokes, intermingled with the bleakness of fighting an insurgency. It does provide a sort of "anti- propaganda"message that the far right will probably look down on in disdain, so i can see some emotionally charged reviews coming.
Overall a good watch and a good conversation topic.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
Brilliant! Pleasantly surprised.
I saw this at the recommendation of a friend, hence walked in with no expectations. The movie ended with a tear in my eye, and that says a lot for me.
It goes on an intense emotional roller coaster, really connecting the characters to the viewers. I am sure this is one of the best movies of 2012, the script, story, acting, casting all on point to create a euphony and embody the brilliance of film.
I have not seen Emma Watson in any other films apart from the Harry Potter series, and I really enjoyed her performance. Go and watch this film.
