Sputnik (2020)
Very well made movie!
You like sci-fi? You like well made, well acted movies? You don't mind a story that's been done before? Watch this, it's a well made, well acted, well paced sci-fi movie. What more do you want?
Want some fast paced with lots of whizz bang explosions then try anything from the MCU, this isn't it.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Season 2 is NOT GOOD
Sorry, but season two is pants compared to the first season.
The stories are not as good, the endings fall flat, the constant smoking is just weird.
The animation? It ranges from being incredible to being just a bit 'meh'.
I watched it waiting for the two or three killer episodes that were going to save the season. They never came, the season ended and that was that.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
It's as bad as you fear.
It's such a shame this movie is so terrible. I'm sure they made it with the best intentions. Good actress in the lead role. Positive message. Defeat the evil without nuclear weapons. Could have been good right?
Could have been.... but isn't.
It's a terrible movie, just terrible. I haven't read the book, and doubt I ever will. So what's bad about it? Other than it's way too long, there's no plot as such. It's just a long maguffin hunt. It's badly directed. It makes over use of CGI. The script is pure cheese. There's a big green flying cabbage scene.
If you are in two minds about going to see this movie then hark my words:
Don't.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
One of the best sequels. Ever.
OMG what a movie. It's such an awesome sequel and an incredible film. It doesn't diminish the original at all. Nothing gets retcon'd, no mystique is lost. Could they have made a better Blade Runner sequel. No.
So it's a great Blade Runner movie, but is it a great movie? One of the best IMHO. Some will say it's slow and boring, but clearly it's not the movie for them then. Every frame on screen is beautiful and crafted with the utmost care. The music and audio is top notch and matches the movie perfectly. And the performances? Gosling is subdued but that's how his character is. And Ford... OMG one of your best sir. Well done.
Just straight up ignore any review that gives it less than 7/10 - clearly they know nothing about what makes a good movie.
Maybe like me you'll consider it a masterpiece, maybe you'll say 'Yeah, was okay I guess' and give it a 7/10.
The Divide (2011)
Doesn't deserve the hatred.
An easy movie to stomach? Probably not, but I've switched off far worse.
A portrait of how you and your friends would behave in a make-shift fallout bunker? I hope not.
Deserving of the hatred? Most definitely not.
I can understand why the movie polarises people so, but it's not a 'bad' movie. For the most part, the performances are first rate, including some very brave and non flattering performances. Rosanna Arquette was especially brilliant but also Michael Eklund and Milo Ventimiglia deserve recognition for their portrayals.
I've scanned through some of the reviews here and the most critical seem to be from those who misunderstand the story, didn't pick up on the clues regarding the passage of time or simply weren't presented with the movie they were expecting. Tip guys, just because a movie is two hours long and doesn't say 'X days later' on screen, it doesn't mean time hasn't passed.
Summary: It's a grim portrayal of humans in crisis. Very much worth watching if you're tempted. Don't be put off by the 'low' average rating, just because some 'prolific' arm-chair reviewer here on IMDb says it's not as good as 'Shark Night 3D' doesn't make it so!
