Riding Bean (1989)
Percy my Man
This has got to be one of the all time great Animations. Everything about this short but effective Movie had me gripped from the very start to its all to early ending. Bean Bandit is a bad guy but he has some sense of morality. I loved all the little nods to the Blues Brothers like the Car registration numbers & some of the chase scenes. My fav character is Percy, the relentless & unintentionally funny Cop who shouts at his Subordinates throughout the entire Movie & he causes so much devastation with his Ford Mustang, more than Bean Bandit in the end. Bean Bandits car is amazing & is more like a James Bond vehicle with all the gadgets & transformations it can do. I can not recommend this Movie enough I would go as far as to say even if you don't like Anime you will like this Movie.
Level E (2011)
I laughed like a school girl
I am very picky with my Anime, but a good friend suggested I watch this short series. I laughed so loud over the first 3 episodes that I woke my Wife (who could not understand why a grown man was watching a Cartoon) The Prince (who is central to the story in many ways) is an absolute Gem who's existence is simply to annoy those around him with twisted & savage mind games including the people who are expected to look after him. The basics of the story is along the lines of Men In Black (like the previous reviewer pointed out) Aliens are coming & living on Earth but are always disguised as Humans. Some have respect for Human life others simply see us as a source of food. I watched the whole season simply to see what the Prince got up to, this did not disappoint me in the least.
Dom Hemingway (2013)
Dom Hemingway = Brash, in your Face Fun Movie.
I am not Jude Law's biggest fan. His best Gangster style film to date IMHO has been Love, Honor & Obey which was immensely entertaining. So I took a long shot at watching this with minimum expectation. How wrong was I. Both Jude Law & Richard E Grant were brilliant. The start was a little "what the hell is going on" until the film kicked into gear & I was blown away by it. It has some very good comedy elements without trying to be funny & some scenes that just stole the movie. As for Dom the character he just reminded me of a few Londoners that I know. A very good movie with nothing original in terms of script or story but both Jude & Richard made good with what little they had to work with.
2 Broke Girls (2011)
Whats not to like......a guilty pleasure
I have read reviews by a lot of people who seem content at bashing this show. It may appear to be a Girly show but let me assure you it is not. Both the leading ladies have their own sense of what life should be like & on the surface of it they should not be friends....but they are & it works. I love the sexual innuendo's especially from Oleg & Sophie, as a supporting cast these 2 characters make the show worth while along with Han & Earl. Miss Channing had everything & now has nothing & has to deal with that for every second of her new life.....this should be a bit depressing but she has Miss Black who has always had nothing & deep down wants for nothing other than the basics, so its the age old story of opposites attract. Caroline is determined to use her education & up bringing to make a success of Max's only talent (making amazing cup cakes) Max is determined to show Caroline that even with nothing you can have a relatively happy existence. So its funny on loads of levels, it is for us adults & the cast clearly enjoy working on the show. You can see this by the little smiles & their body language. The other reason I like this show is Max has a tendency to wear rare band & comic T shirts & also has mentioned 2 of my favourite bands Slayer & Cannibal Corpse. Check this show out & I assure you that you will love it.
Captain Battle: Legacy War (2013)
Its either a Tribute to bad films or its just a bad film
After watching this Movie 5 times in a weekend (my buddy & I told friends it was the best movie ever made, a must see) I am still undecided as to the actual agenda of this movie. Is it......
Option 1: Its a tribute to every bad movie ever made using every bad camera shot, bad effects, really bad editing & some seriously depressing acting (if this is the case then its Genius) Option 2: Its simply the worst movie ever made period (if this is the case then someone needs shooting or stopped from having any offspring for the sake of Humanity in general) As for the storyline......well its a Captain America rip off almost from start to end.
It was funny the first time I watched it & the fun aspect shrunk with every viewing to the point where suicide was a viable option. Its fairly obvious that they blew the entire budget on the Car & the Chicks with nothing left for the effects or editing. I am lost for words as to how I express my level of pity towards this movie.
The Fall (2013)
Gillian Anderson was SUPERB
Why a 9, well the last episode left me a bit upset (to say the least). This story was written with Gillian in mind for the main role, once she agreed then the writing took off & more episodes were generated. I have noticed that a lot of reviewers did not like this series, whats not to like. Gillian's character is so unassuming & has absolutely no idea what she is doing to the male characters around her.....or does she? Paul was so calculating & clever just what you want from a vicious serial killer with a unique sense of wrong & right that only applies to him. The cast is excellent & the graphic nature of the series really made me feel like it was written for an adult audience & not for the teenage population that so many drama's are written for. To end I will say this, the storyline may be done a million times before but this had so many layers it had me thinking & discussing the angles with my wife for days after. Well done to all involved for a staggering drama for adults.
The Battery (2012)
$6,000 to make this Movie, Hollywood should beware.
I will say it again just $6,000 to make this movie & it is exceptional. The 2 main characters are so alike yet so different. 1 of them loves to kill Zombies the other 1 is fearful of what he will become if he starts on the road to Kill city. So this movie centres more around the relationship between the main characters rather than a Zombie kill festival. There are some genius scenes that had me crying with laughter & the soundtrack was simply brilliant. For once in a Zombie movie I was completely blown away by the actions of both main guys. The logical approach & the utter brutality that happens had me focused from start to end, yet it was not a gore film the balance was perfect. So the soundtrack gets a 10/10 The scenic photography gets a 10/10 The acting gets a 10/10 and last but not least the Storyline gets a 10/10. So if 2 guys can do this for $6,000 then Hollywood should run & hide, I for one want to see more from these guys....a lot more.
Mayday (2013)
Mayday = Sheer Excellence
BBC has built its reputation on providing excellent Drama over the years & Mayday is no exception. The story surrounds a missing girl & it seems that everyone who knew her could be responsible for her disappearance. This Drama twists & turns and all the characters seem to be watching each other and doubt is at the forefront of everyone's mind. The BBC has excelled itself this time with a familiar cast of seasoned actors & a few new faces. I found this series to have an almost sinister edge with the music adding to the atmosphere, very well directed & the leafy calm of Surrey was the perfect place in which to film it.
Red Dawn (2012)
Stick to the Original
Firstly the very talented Chris Hemsworth & Jeffrey Dean Morgan could not carry this film alone....not with this supporting cast & the storyline that must have been written by 2 drug crazed teenagers that want to put the World to rights. The movie started off very promising with the News reports & clips that were used but it went downhill & fast when we were presented with Josh Peck & his miserable face.
Talking of Josh Peck......I cant say anything about this sour faced prune without getting into a rant about young talent that could have done a good job over his appalling effort.
Josh Hutcherson played a very like able character (just like he did in The Hunger Games) who's development throughout the movie I enjoyed.
Kenneth Choi & Matt Gerald were very good but this is expected from 2 seasoned Actors with the decent Film Bio that they have.
The rest of the cast were OK but overall it was a very lacklustre performance on the whole.
The 1 thing I cannot forgive is the scenes where they are using Sniper Rifles with Telescopic Sights & firing these weapons very accurately WITH BOTH EYES OPEN......not a chance in a month of Sundays would you hit ANYTHING firing a weapon like that. Whoever the Military Consultant was he did not do his job and should therefore not get paid.
Overall I was deeply saddened by this Movie after all the original was fantastic to say the least.
