Heels (2021)
Indie Wrestling Fans, Rejoice
Since early childhood, I've been a fan of wrestling. And since I was born, raised, and still live in the Southern United States (North Carolina to be exact), I've always been a fan of independent wrestling. Heels is a very fine example of the workings of a local independent wrestling organization, including a lot of things that happen behind the scenes (I know this because one of my best friends is not only an independent wrestler, but was also the stunt double for Diego Cottonmouth in this series). This show has a little of everything for fans; there's drama, action, a little comedy, and just overall consistent entertainment.
I'm not saying that this show will be anyone's favorite television show, but it's definitely worth watching and I'm looking forward to season 2.
Demonic Christmas Tree (2022)
A Holiday hit
Listen, you're gonna read the description and groan. You're probably gonna see low "critic" reviews and you're going to write this one off. DO NOT DO THAT. Listen to fans of low budget horror, like myself. This, at the very least, will find itself in your "so bad it's good" column if you let it. The CGI is laughable, and most of the kills are part of that CGI, but that's actually part of the charm here! Watching these cheesy CGI kills made me chuckle, and it's a big part of what kept me entertained until the end.
If you are a fan of movies like Jack Frost, Jack Frost 2, Thankskilling, CarousHELL, and so on, this is right up your alley.
Intinction (2022)
Fantastic short
Intinction is a phenomenal piece of art for those of us who love 70s/80s horror, and of course fans of practical effects/makeup over CGI.
It's very well written, very well filmed, and the acting is perfect for this story. Schlocky when it needs to be schlocky, gory when it needs to be gory (but not insanely gory; just a little here and there, then goregasm in the final few minutes), and entertaining start to finish. Intinction never feels like it drags at any point during the 25 minute runtime; this short film gives you all killer no filler.
If you're looking for a quick love letter to the best decade for horror, this is for you.
Space Babes from Outer Space (2017)
Great schlock
It's like Troma and classic 80s late night cult schlock got together and had a baby in 2017! So many great puns! An amazing 80s-esque soundtrack! This is by far one of the best films I've seen this year! Space Babes From Outer Space has cult classic written all over it!
This film has that "late night comedy" feel, without the overabundance of nudity in an attempt to lock in viewers (not to say that there isn't plenty of nudity, but those scenes aren't the selling point of the film). It's definitely the sort of film that you can watch again and again with some chicken nuggets, a few cold beers, and your best friends.
