BAC Nord (2020)
good potential material, disappointing result
The movie seems, like the justice usually does, to be quite lenient with the cops. What is supposed to be the apex of the movie is not that tense (as it should be when police is fighting goons) and was let down due to my expectations. Neither that informative or entertaining.
La French (2014)
Decent run of the mill Police movie
It's a true story but the family did not agree with the content. It gives a good idea of Marseille's politics. Some actors are not that convincing but it is a good mix.
Chouf (2016)
Very classic plot with good sociological characteristics
Very classical revenge plot among dealers. But this one is made more authentic by the usual characteristics of Dridi's movies (in Marseille, with non professional actors).
This is good craftsman work with decent entertainment value.
Khamsa (2008)
made with the heart but not completely fulfilling (5.5)
This movie is made by a local with non professional actors. This last point, contrary to similar setups, does not detract. This takes place in a real life gipsy camp in Marseille. I found the story too soul crushing and with no redemption in sight. It's not a bad movie but not what I am looking for.
Shéhérazade (2018)
Very good movie
I was watching this movie as part of a cycle on Marseille, both books and movies. This movie does not actually shows much of the city.
What I got was actually a very good movie which depicts a full range of characters and emotions. This is a love story which makes one care about the heroes. Plus the photography was good. I recommend
Braqueurs (2015)
Good packaging but lack of substance
It is a pure action movie, rather well made. Story is not very credible and we lack empathy towards the characters. Better off avoiding it.
