The Irishman (2019)
The Forrest Gump of Mafia films
The de-aging was a little rough, deep fakes did it better. The Irishman killed Joe Gallo , cmon man. The Irishman killed Hoffa , please. Tony Jack is probably pleased that the film took the heat off of him. Honestly, he would probably be completely fine with it, Detroit La Cosa Nostra like keeping their lips sealed. My biggest problem is that there was a much more compelling story to be told with the truth.
All in all, this film , minus my Detroit sentiment, is a beautiful thing. Mr. Scorsese gave us what he intended and it landed. Al Pacino delivered a great performance. Nostalgia ran amok for me. Personally, this is my favorite performance from Joe Pesci. He is one of the all time greatest and he delivered something so moving. Ray Romano was absolutely on point.
The film is epic on many levels. A must see. Easter eggs galore. I hear you paint houses is obviously the title Scorsese wanted and it would have been much better.
White Boy (2017)
White Boy Rick
Growing up in Detroit; YBI till I die was graffitied on shuttered homes. Tony Jack sightings at Paul's Chop House were a thing of substance. People knew Gil Hill for the Beverly Hills Cop films, we knew him because of Damion Lucas. And above all Coleman Young was the MFIC. After Rick Wershe, White Boy Rick was a nick name given to any white boy in the neighborhood who sold a nickel bag, little did we know the reality and intrigue behind the name. This film goes in depth on this urban legend of a story we heard as kids. It's engaging and informative. I had no clue how this story came together and my mind is blown. Amazing documentary.
