San Daikaijû Chikyû Saidai no Kessen (1964)
great for all age audiences entertaining and fun.
"People of Earth, I call your attention to the ever-expanding universe..." This and other lines like it are delivered by the beautiful himalyaan Princess who is hypnotized my Martians in the film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. I admit I don't watch a lot of Godzilla films But this film which is the fifth Goddzilla movie and from 1964 is mesmerizing and amazingly entertaining artistic and wonderful. The song of the fairies is about happiness crying is awesome. The Indian Princess character who is in a trance by being taken over by beings from outterspace is wonderful. Her acting is superb. They films within film transitioning from characters watching TV and the TV show becoming the film is awesome too. It has strong character development and the monsters just come into the film as characters in the later part of the film so it is not just monster fights. I think this film is really about humans and how we're not taking care of the earth. I saw this film by accident and it totally blew me away and changed my mood for the entire week. I put it up there with the greatest films of all time. I love the twin fairies and mesmerized by their song. I love everything about this film. Its sense of humor, its pace, its writing and transitions. The way the person's hat blows off the cliff. The way the attention of the viewer is directed by the writing and camera movement, and they way the plot is conveyed. 10 star rating.
Buddha: Rajaon Ka Raja (2013)
wonderful and totally off mark at the same time
The story of Buddha is very meaningful profound and engrossing in and of itself, especially the part of his life before he becomes Buddha is very moving. I am so moved whenever I hear the story This TV series does portray much of Siddhartha's Struggles as is especially effective at getting across the part of the story of his youth before Siddhartha become Buddha. However at around I think episode 25 once the Siddhartha leaves home and meets with other teachers to study meditation the series becomes just a blend of ideas that are not in Buddhism with Buddhism. I suggest one reads the book "Old Path White Clouds for a more real explanation of what Buddha said and Buddhist teachings.
Buddhism was wiped out from India and while this story is being told by people who respect Buddhism it is not really that much based on real knowledge and experience, especially the second half of the series. I wish they consulted more real Buddhist teachers and had others with knowledge give more input.
I do love the acting and I do find parts of the series artfully and skillfully done. I do feel it was a heartfelt effort from all the actors and so on, but I think the main director or screenwriter is so off the mark, it really has even political implications considering the story is still moving, but not really conveying any teachings that would upset anyone to adopt Buddhism. in the end I feel for any person who is really seeking knowledge and the truth if they saw this film they would get the wrong understand of Buddhism and what Buddha actually taught. I would have given it 8 or 9 stars if they actually improved the script of the 2nd half, but I give it only 5 stars, and hope people actually read authentic books and watch other films like "Little Buddha" to better understand Buddhism. At times also they indulged in a 180's Dallas like soap opera kind of style which was funny but a bit overdone as other reviewers have said, ever dramatizing the villains. .
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
not that memorable and a long lasting work of art lacks contrast
I am a fan of twin peaks in general having watched the originals many times and also the Wire Walk With Me Film. For the 2017 episodes I cannot deny there was a lot of interesting shots and sequences, atomic bombs, outer space. I also love the performances of the actors, and the characters and some scenes are really funny and it was fun to watch in general. However now that time has passed since i watched it, to me it has no lasting value like the first series. Why? because there was no contrast in pace or content between weird and normal for the weird to have a punctuation mark. In the first series there was a lot of small town or seemingly normal (if not normal at least quirky) life and then the strange or wierd and violent things stood out. There is no real quality of poignant or specialness to the strange experiences. Also there was just a lot of walking and traveling going on at times, i do not want to spoil anyone's viewing but some scenes have a lot of time devoted to going through one room or courtyard and then entering another room or courtyard. It was supposed to feel eerie. There were also too many characters to keep up with and it felt rushed, unlike the first series. In 1990's the tv series on a network has a full season to develop unpack itself and hold together with a simple plot line, who killed laura palmer, Here the entire focus of what was being shown was to general and broad an exploration to hold interest or develop a focus of plot.
