Pompeii (2014)
Overall a good movie. Director said he directed it as a disaster movie
Every single fact aside, as in 99.9% of all movies, I enjoyed this movie very much. The Special effects were very good, and did not look like everything was done in front of a green screen. I particularly looked at the large crown scenes and found many people or things moving throughout the scenes. Every movie of this type is based on very little eye witness, there was virtually nothing written back then, so today we do the best we can to relate what happened. In this case, I think it was done well. The biggest mistake in casting was the roll of Cassia. I was much more moved with Ariadne. In my opinion, she was more beautiful and sensitive than Cassia, although if I could have had my pick, I would have chosen Milo. He was stunningly gorgeous.
The Return of Daniel Boone (1941)
They didn't write them like this very often, especially in 1941
I just watched this on Encore Westerns and aside from the print being excellent, the writing and especially Bill Elliott's acting was superior. His dialog was snappy, to the point and that is exactly how he delivered it, as he always did.
My only complaint was that they had to fill up time with songs that were cute, and 2 young women 'in love' with Dub Taylor's character, but kind of amateurish. Dub, as always, handled it all very well.
I've never seen a Bill Elliott movie that didn't move right along and please me, plus he actually looked the characters he played and he was one heck of a fighter.
The Young Riders (1989)
great show great cast great stories great outdoor shots
I video taped all of this series back when it was on, never realizing, that so many other people liked it even though it did last 3 seasons.
It really was and is a great series, set in the old west, with lots of beautiful location scenes, and some great actors and great writing and was even recorded in stereo sound. It actually holds up today.
What more could you want?
Except for all 3 years to make it out in beautiful DVD box sets.
Well, they have got the first year out, now how about the rest of this great series! It is up to us to write to Sony Pictures TV and ask for the next 2 years to be released.
Young Americans (2000)
My favorite TV mini series of all time was not given a chance by The WB
"Young Americans" was my favorite TV show mini series of all time. Each of the characters were interesting and developed very natural and I became a fan within the first fifteen minutes of the first episode.
Each episode of the series, which was set at a boy's college, contained some very positive lessons that were thoughtfully presented by the Professor Finn so as not to 'preach'.
Over the course of the 8 episodes that aired we became intimately involved in the lives of these people and became involved with them.
The WB Network really did not thoughtfully give this series a fighting chance, there were weeks when the show did not air in it's set time slot, which I believe is a must, if you want to develop an audience, and it was almost impossible to find out when it was going to be on, unless you watched The WB 24 hours a day and were lucky enough to catch the one or two promos for the next airing.
Unfortunately we will never know what happened in the interwoven lives of these characters because it was cancelled after only 8 sporadic episodes.
It would be nice if WB would put it out on DVD, as far as the music rights, the music was promoted on each episode, and if any of it is still available today, I would think the artists and labels (much of which was WB Records) should welcome the new publicity.
Latter Days (2003)
THE MOST REAL AND BEST GAY MOVIE EVER RELEASED
I just saw this movie, and can't wait to see it again, and ultimately own it on DVD.
For the first time I can ever remember this is the most accurate movie depicting some real people who happen to be gay.
For the first time I can ever remember this is the first time I have seen two men of the same sex meet, learn from each other and ultimately realize they have so much together that it can only be love.
AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER AN ENDING THAT IS NOT AN ENDING, BUT A REAL BEGINNING.
Thank you to the Producers of this excellent movie for showing a human side of people who just happen to fall in love with someone of their same sex.
It does happen, you know. Really it does, and it can be wonderful. Watch this movie and see for yourself.
