Lost in Space (2018)
disappointing
Was looking forward to this. Watched the first episode and was disappointed by the endless parade of stupidities, inconsistencies, and ridiculousness in the story line. Ludicrous contrived conditions defying science. logic and common sense were being conjured up left and right to fit their poorly made storyline. The effects were good, but the story sucks. Even in a scifi movie, some levels of believability should exist. They failed miserably here.
Dear Other Self (2017)
entertaining enough
The concept of the story was interesting but the execution was trite. The love interests were just too predictable and shallow.
It's also amazing that the character of Jodi Sta. Maria was able to keep driving without getting into an accident every few minutes as she hardly ever kept her eyes on the road. Half the time she would be looking at her companion, and the other half of the time her head would be facing forward but her eyes were everywhere else but the road ahead.
A much better film could have been made if they had a better story writer and director, I guess. But overall it was cute enough to watch.
Ghost Adventures (2008)
For an Investigative Show - no objectivity, too much drama, all speculative
I watch almost all paranormal documentaries out there. Sadly, this is one of the worst. They to try to portray themselves as investigators but there is nothing scientific or objective in their approach. They might use technical gadgets but that in no way legitimizes the process.
The lead keeps on over reacting, jumping to conclusions, and makes generalizations without any basis whatsoever. He often likes to dramatically proclaim spirits as being evil without any form of evidence. He feels it might be evil so he declares it as evil. Pure sensationalism.
If there was any sense of objectivity, then they should approach it with rational observation. Instead, the lead just keeps on over dramatizes and speculates.
Furthermore, what is the point of their whole exercise other than sensationalism? They don't try to seriously investigate, nor do they try to help the spirits that may be lingering there. Instead, the lead just likes to show of his machismo by taunting invisible characters. He enjoys trying to show off how fearless he is but over acts like a drama queen the moment some 'ghostly' action takes place.
Sons of Liberty (2015)
Poor Casting, Lame Performances
I can forgive the historical embellishments and inaccuracies but I can't overlook the poor casting. With a series loaded with iconic historical characters, it is a shame that the portrayal of most of them is so lame. Very lackluster performances. Speeches meant to be moving fall short. Ben Barnes as Sam Adams is ridiculous. Sam Adams was past 50 at that time, older than many others there including George Washington. His portrayal falls terribly short. Totally lacks the compelling attributes that made him such a significant leader during that period. The players who portrayed George Washington and Benjamin Franklin betrays the greatness of the historical personalities. One would expect to see them portrayed almost larger than life. I was expecting compelling performances that would leave me in some bit of awe and respect for their monumental roles and even feel patriotic, but t didn't. I am not one who makes it a habit to criticize acting in programs, but I find the acting and casting so poor that it really robs from my enjoying this program.
Ancient Aliens (2009)
A Good Documentation of various mysteries but badly damaged by a lack of basic objectivity and some resource persons with no credibility.
Good Points: - comprehensive presentation of various historical places, stories, situations, and artifacts that have mysteries and unexplained factors - a clear presentation of what makes these varied mysteries baffling in light of the history of technology - a comprehensive presentation of the connection between unrelated ancient cultures and structures and revealing unexplained similarities - excellent quality videos of all these sites around the world - a lot of the items they present can really make one ponder that there maybe validity to the possibility of ancient aliens
Poor Points: - the presentation of theories with regards to the mysteries are one sided (for example: they might point to a certain structure and claim that it is not possible to do it with modern technology but will base it purely on the claim of an obviously biased ancient alien theorist. there is no presentation of a credible scientist to at least verify if modern technology cannot do it, etc) - there is no scientific approach in the presentation (they pose a historical mystery and just claim it couldn't be possible and immediately speculate it must have been ancient aliens and not allow the possibility of anything else
Major Fail: - the persistent presence of a resource person who is void of any realistic logic, science, or basic common sense. They keep on letting Giorgio A. Tsoukalos turn the whole documentary into a sensationalized fantasy. All the other resource persons, though obviously biased in favor of ancient aliens share the same basic approach: they would present the historical anomaly, explain why it is a mystery, and present a theory "could it be it was due to ancient aliens?" and it comes across as something plausible. At least all of them present a theory, and makes one think that it might be possible. Mr. Giorgio Tsoukalos claims all of his theories as fact. He doesn't claim "could it be" but he always states with authority that it is a matter of fact. What's even worse is that he does not only state it as a matter of fact, he even goes as far as saying the intention and the reasons why the ancient aliens did that. And,I wonder if he actually listens to himself - he will point to all historic literature and mythologies dealing with angels and state that angels don't exist so they could only have been extra terrestials - oh wow, what logic. He can accept one mystery but not another and no reasoning given. He says so, so it must be fact! This person destroyed the credibility of the show. I can't believe History Channel allowed this as it threw all credibility to the wind.
3rd Season: Sadly, the 3rd season showed a mark decline for the show. Though there are a few episodes that were still thought provoking and plausible, many of the others were pushing it too much. They have gone to the extent of explaining everything as being caused by ancient aliens. zombies were caused by ancient aliens, Jesus' raising lazarus from the dead has to do with ancient aliens, all plagues and epidemics were done by ancient aliens, George washington and the founding of the US also under the influence of ancient aliens... what next?
Sad sad sad, if they only stuck to some objectivity this would have been an awesome series, but they turned it into some fantasy tabloid.
