Hotel Rwanda (2004)
How could we had allowed occurrences of this kind to take place ?!?
The first time I've seen the film I've been really taken aback. How could we had allowed occurrences of this kind to take place ?!? For this message and the film realization I put 10.
On the other hand I've been about to demonize the Hutus. But after reading about the backgrounds of the conflict, un upset has arisen: why did the film makers haven't even tried, even with a few sentences of the main character to describe the origin of the conflict? Moreover there had been genocide on Hutus in Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda before. This is really an angled point of view, bringing up a political film partially displaying a situation, out of context. For this I put 5.
Again the humanitarian message, thanks God and probably the filmmakers, prevails.
Nekrologji (1994)
Its always worth seeing "different" films.
In order to understand and fully enjoy the film, one should know the background of its filming:
1) Shot in 1993 just after the fall of the regime, it represents the understanding of the director at this time with the knowledge of over 60 years separation from the world. The film draws parallels to the life of the Enver Hoxha's wife.
2) Black and white film is shot because this was the state-of-the-art at this time
Overall I enjoyed the film throughly. Its always worth going to festivals (in this case GoEast-Wiesbaden, Germany). Otherwise I can't imagine where it is possible to see "different" films.
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
Great picture details but definitely too educational.
It has been paid a lot of attention to the details in this film. This is the good part of the film.
On the other hand, the plot and the choice for the actors Martina Gedeck, Sebastian Koch and Ulrich Tukur could have been better. Not that the actors don't perform well. On the contrary, but there are nuances missing. For example there is too much self-conscious coming over in their figures ... this is definitely not the aspect you would have met in GDR.
The plot is O.K. We have to remember the dark sides of life in these states. Its also enough to remember about George Orwell.
The film has a much greater "educational" value ("the good and the bad") than an artistic one. It emphasizes too much the way the viewer should think about the situation once.
Overall nice work for a debut movie.
Rozdroze Cafe (2005)
Well done
I saw this film in Krakow's Kino Pod Baranami. Film was well done. It depicts the misunderstandings among some young polish provincial people, who have the ambitions to crop up in the new post-communist, re-capitalist society.
While the young women in the film are trying to escape the disconsolately life by either getting know established oldsters or by giving birth to numerous children, the young men decide to rob a bank. Things get wrong, one of the guys flips out and kills four people.
The film is supposed to be based on a true story which has happened for about 3-4 years in Warsaw. The screenplay makes use of many clichés, otherwise film is well done.
Vremya sobirat kamni (2005)
I like it
Film was well done. Has some corrections of the ideologically past. It was obviously thought on some nice details (psychological, war devices) although not all of them authentic, but which make film more worth watching. I think,it could have be made less pathetic but thats not a serious critic I guess.
Story was about the post-war life of the officers, former enemies. The German officer decides to stay and make a small portion of good-doing by dismantling mines placed by the German retreat. He gets company of an officer and a she-interpreter. Some love glances are exchanged. At the end the German officer dies tragically.
