The Week Of (2018)
Cute & Fun for the Family (maybe teen & up)
I don't understand the bad reviews. This is funny and heartfelt. I was laughing. I was crying. Adam Sandler as Kenny was more or a serious character, but the whole thing was full of laughs. If you come from a big family, with a lot eccentricities and personalities, you will completely understand the chaos. I was laughing so hard because it is so real. I lost it with the wheelchair scene. I thought the details were perfect and funnier than the lines. Also, the Quality Lodge owner laughing all the time really got me chortling! C'mon people, sit back relax, and allow some fun and play in your lives!
Moriah's Lighthouse (2022)
Lovely, charming, cottage core satisfaction
I am surprised by the bad reviews overall. I loved this! I thought the acting and chemistry was great. Yes, the accent was off and on, but welcome to Hallmark (this is a common occurrence and these are fast shoots so not enough time to perfect a dialect or accent). The scenery is gorgeous. The town, characters, set was so charming. I love a story with history, some mystery, highlighting artifacts, architecture, culture, and cuisine. I loved that Moriah was an independent woman who knew herself! I also loved the relationship between her and her aunt. I much prefer these story lines to the old formula of "a woman works in marketing" + "a man who is developer" + one comes to the other's hometown + they hate each other = one of them gives up their entire life to stay in the hometown of other after knowing them for 2 weeks. This was more nuanced, a bit of a slow burn, more complexity. I found it really delightful.
Feeling Butterflies (2022)
Didn't feel butterflies
I am so disappointed because I love Kayla and Kevin and think they are both great actors. I can't believe I am evening saying this but I didn't feel like there is chemistry between them, which is odd, considering they are a real life couple. I have seen them in other things with more chemistry than this portrayed. So I blame the story. I thought it was a cute concept but then it didn't go anywhere for me, there was so depth, the character development was lacking all the way around. And I felt yucky watching him be emotionally unavailable and leading her on and her pining after him. I thought we were done with those story lines, Hallmark. I definitely want to see them in more movies together and hopefully better stories!
Love, Classified (2022)
Great acting, love the concept, story was bland
The acting was great and natural. I like that there was a large main cast, rather than 2 characters only. I like that it was a departure from the typical Hallmark formula. I also liked the quirky elements. I loved and appreciated the inclusivity and would love to see more of this from Hallmark. I liked the concept of this movie but the story fell short for me. Some parts dragged with a lot of pointless dialogue. Others had dramatic energy but weren't believable to the story line without context to put it in. It skipped over character development. There could have been more depth to some of the secondary storylines like Emilia and the bookstore owner, it's just sort of thrown in that they knew each other. So, I was disappointed because I had a lot of hope for this one since it had a lot of ingredients I life, it just didn't have the special sauce to bring it all together.
