The Way (2024)
Simple and tragic idea
It reminds me of Benjamin Zephaniah's poem
We can all be refugees
Nobody is safe,
All it takes is a mad leader
Or no rain to bring forth food,
We can all be refugees
We can all be told to go,
We can be hated by someone
For being someone.
Simple story, one family with their troubled past and complex relationships, in a city of troubled past and complex relationships, in a country of troubled past and complex relationships.
The storyline is simple with obvious references to recent refugees crisis in Europe. The acting is good, and excellent choice of locations.
I didn't like the music, for some reason it is more fitting to a thriller, rather than human tragedy.
Wanbyeokhan tain (2018)
Great conversation, interesting themes
I watched this with subtitles, enjoyed how flawless the conversations and how easy it was to connect with the characters. Their stories changed, and your perspective changed.
We, audience, attended this friends gathering, invited to join in their stories and secrets. It is shot in a way that makes you feel you are actually in the apartment, easy on the eye to follow, and as their secrets unravel you, like the rest of the people in the room start judging these characters. The story/ies evolve to cover all aspects of family relationships, midlife crisis, love, romance, children and friendship, in less than hours...
It is a very good movie, story, camera, directing all good.. Highly recommended.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Same idea repeated
The first Avatar was different to anything at the time. The world's created by the CGIs were just amazing.
Now, we have the same idea repeated with a very boring story and rubbish plot. The CGI is still brilliant but it is not exciting..
The story is so weak, predictable and an idea seen in 100s of movies. I could summarise it in 2 minutes, the film stretched it over 3 hours.
As for the wonderful images created for this film, it would make a great screensaver (if you old enough to know what I'm talking about). But is this why you want to watch it!
At the end of the movie my 14yr old son looked at me and said : is that it! That was waste of time.... Glad it' was not only me..
The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)
Soft enjoyable and touching drama
There are many great stories that are told badly, and there are small and simple stories that are told brilliantly, and this movie is definitely a good example of that...
Is it about racing, love, family life , about loss, greif, or about hope? Or a simple mixture of all the above, put through a narrative that is unresistable to follow..
I can't say that the twist of events is unpredictable, but it's not a drama about a plot, it's about life and life is a journey full of plots...
I really enjoyed watching this movie...
