Wednesday (2022)
Only finished cause I was bored and like Enid
There are two things that make this show good: Jenna Ortega's acting and the relationship between Enid and Wednesday.
The mystery isn't too compelling, the parents are meh, sorry but the love interests or whatever you wanna call them were wet blankets. Their acting wasn't bad but there was no substance in the writing of the "love triangle" and no chemistry whatsoever. Why do both boys look and behave alike, i had a hard time telling them apart. Loved the headmistress and Gwendolyn Christie is brilliant. I wouldn't have gone where they went with her though. The effects in the show were pretty neat. And hey, the lesbian moms actually got lines and weren't just gimmicks. May I ask why only the intentionally unlikable characters are portrayed by black actors? Gave it 6 stars since i finished the show.
Willow (2022)
Once you're in it's fun
I never saw the movie. But I'm enjoying the show. The first two episodes weren't really sucking me in but the show felt more interesting than the cookie cutter stuff out there because it has a world i haven't seen before. Non-hyper-violent fantasy is non-existent these days, until Willow. Episode 3 however made it click for me. That was a truly good one and then 5 gave the characters time to be and to establish themselves further. They all start out as archetypes but that gets put on its head. I'm not giving the show a 10 because like so many others it feels sorta rushed. And ironically the titular character to me isn't fleshed out or is interesting beyond being a lore provider. Kudos for the queer rep and that I'm able to tell people apart cause they are from different backgrounds. I saw someone be upset with the different accents. I think they kept that because the characters are not all from the same place. So it doesn't bother me. It's not the best show out there but I'm curious to see where it goes and it definitely lightens up an afternoon each week.
EDIT after rewatch: there are so many parallels and the character developments are so we'll thought out!!! Really need a season 2.
A League of Their Own (2022)
Brilliant writing
This show did not shy away from exploring the uncomfortable topics of racism, queerphobic and misogyny in very real ways. At first I was wondering if we just had a collection of stereotypes and archetypes but by episode 2 every character showed that there was depth to them. Telling Carson and Maxine's stories in parallel was brilliant. There wasn't a moment I didn't enjoy or appreciate.
NCIS: Hawai'i (2021)
The show improves with every episode
I have browsed through the reviews here and can't believe the show's rating gets dragged down for the most unrelated reasons. Don't rate a show after only 1 episode.
This show is not the reason New Orleans got canceled and shouldn't be compared to Hawaii 5O. The show feels like maybe season 2 of the original NCIS in it's pacing. Having 5 main characters feels more realistic than just the three we were used to. People complaining about how pretty the cast is, i mean NCIS LA has handsome folks too. The show has actually a good balance between focusing on the characters and focusing on the case of the week. I prefer less personal drama in my procedurals but still need characters that feel three dimensional. I like that you can tell a case isn't solved in two days and that there is actually investigating involved. I know the review will get down voted for mentioning it but I really appreciate the diversity represented.

Stowaway (2021)
I love space stuff when done right
Good:
The score, audio and visual effects are great. The movie knows how to create and maintain tension. The actors did a good job with what they were given.
I like the shown isolation if never seeing or hearing anyone who was not in the ship.
Bad:
None of the character's had any development. You don't know why there is a commander.
The following is gonna be spoilery:
They never explain how Michael got tangled up in parts of the ship. At first I thought there was a mystery behind it. But they just drop it. And I find it interesting how the commander can't go because of her injury, Michael can't go cause of his lack of training, David cannot because he was already exhausted. So the team member who should be a logical choice to be saved since she is fit, takes up little oxygen and space and also has a vital role as a doctor... She is the one saving everyone else. It looked at the end as if the whole movie had been about Anna Kendrick's character and no one else but all the way there is was an ensemble movie. We'll never know if they make it to mars but the journey was the point I guess.
Now for the rant part. Everyone could have survived!!!
1. Build in redundancy for all equipment on a ship. But I guess the message was capitalism is bad. 2. That is not how you behave in space. Never ever let go of the ship and always be tethered. You cannot lose a canister if you are attached to it. Gloves on eva suits can't take that kind of friction...
Motherland: Fort Salem (2020)
Build a world and then crank up the tension
The trailer looked interesting. I gave the first episode a try and as all pilots have to, it too was mainly focused on introducing the world and its characters. Felt superficial at times but overall intriguing. Gave the following episodes a chance and it got better with every episode that aired. They flesh out characters at the right moment, they subvert some tropes and wisely utilize others. The cast is strong especially in dramatic scenes. Jessica who plays Tally has great comedic timing. Two series regulars are a couple from the getgo. And they are two women which is unfortunately rare but here done beautifully. So many other shows shy away from the concept or add it half-heartedly somewhere in the background. Here the bond between women in general, between the unit (the three main characters) and the bond between the couple are what grounds the show and gives it strength. I like the take on what if the military had magic. The three sides to conscription. The fear and admiration the civilians have for the witches. A lot of thought has been put into this. Even Christian symbols found a way into the show as a great communication tool and metaphor. The overarching question is what means justify what end. At no point is the show military propaganda and that's a relief.
