The Little Mermaid (2023)
I'm just not sure
I wouldn't say I hated it but I just feel like this remake wasn't necessary.
The original Triton obviously loses his temper but this Triton just felt so cold even at the end when he turns her human himself there was just no warmth, he might as well have been a stranger to her.
There was no chemistry between Ariel and Eric either. Eric's solo just didn't need to happen and the whole thing just felt a bit cringy.
I love The Little Mermaid and I wouldn't say I'm against the remakes as such I actually really enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast one but I just feel like LM didn't need to happen. I put off watching it for so long and perhaps I didn't need to watch it at all, I won't be watching it again, it had none of the charm of the original one and as my daughter grows up it will be the original that I show her.
This Time with Alan Partridge (2019)
It just isn't funny
My boyfriend has been trying to get me into this but I just can't bear it. I don't know if I'm missing a trick but I just don't find it funny. It makes me cringe everytime it's on.
Love and Monsters (2020)
Loved it!
It's actually quite nice to watch something like this without it being all doom and gloom! It's funny, if a tiny bit cringey and there's enough action. Dylan O'brien is brilliant, he's good at playing these comical clumsy characters. Boy yhe dog was also brilliant, I loved it.
Prodigal Son (2019)
Blacklist meets Criminal Minds
I love this show. I've always enjoyed watching Michael Sheen, he doesn't feature quite so much as I thought he would but regardless I still enjoy the show. Tom Payne is a nice little cherry on the top as I'd always loved him as Jesus in The Walking Dead. It's definitely a mix of the Blacklist and Criminal Minds. Tom Payne (Malcolm) plays the role of a profiler with a troubled past thanks to Michael Sheen's character (a serial killer known as The Surgeon and also Malcolm's father) and in his own demented way assists Malcolm and his team solve cases.
Ghosts of War (2020)
No ending.....
I didn't actually have a clue what this was about, it was in Netflix's top ten so I just went with it. It's definitely not your average war film lol. I could deal with it being supernatural, a bit odd but I was rolling with it. The twist at the end however, absolute madness. Are we just supposed to guess how it panned out - did he manage to save the rest of them?! I guess I'll never know lol. The only other time I was this disappointed was when I watched Open House!!
Enola Holmes (2020)
Am I the only one that just watched the movie...
There are so many reviews here wittering on about feminism and politics, was I the only one that just watched the movie for a bit of fun?? I was drawn to it because I like Millie in Stranger Things. The film is not aimed at my age group but I enjoyed it and took it all with a pinch of salt. I don't really give a monkeys about feminism or politics but why shouldn't a young girl be the one to save the day. It's a nice family friendly movie, people need to stop taking things so seriously.
Instrument of War (2017)
Beautiful
I don't understand the poor ratings for this. Sure if you're looking for something with all the action of Saving Private Ryan then you won't find that here but this is a beautiful film and it is the message you should take from it. Someone has rated this a 3, only watching 30 minutes of it and mocking it for being about making a violin. This is a true story and it warms my heart that in those desperate times this is something they did just to get through.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Not for me
I'm not sure why there's so many good reviews but I guess we all like different things. For me it's a bit of a struggle. I'll be honest I got an hour and 45 through it and gave up. It feels like a hard slog to actually finish it. There's seemingly no character development. DiCaprio's character is basically a scumbag, there's so much sex and drugs it makes you feel like you're watching American Pie or something. I put this film on my list because it appeared to be a success and a good watch. Totally wrong, this isn't my kind of film at all.
