Trailer Park of Terror (2008)
A Class-A "B" Movie!
This movie's billing as a Zombedy is just right. It's totally gory and funny all at the same time. The acting was good, and the cinematography was noticeably creative. Trace Adkins as the devil was a treat - wish he'd had a bigger role! The characters were well-drawn for a horror movie. The trailer park set was terrific: the stuff of nightmares! My only complaint was the make-up on the zombie faces. I thought it would have been more effective had it been a little more refined. These are a different kind of zombie than we usually see. They're intelligent (or, rather, as intelligent as they were in life), had memory of their lives, behaved more like vampires in that they worked together as a group. This would make a great movie to show at Halloween. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the fun!
If I Die Before I Wake (1998)
One of the best thrillers you've never heard of!
This home invasion thriller hits the ground running and doesn't stop until the last frame. The cast was full of names you've never heard of, which made the characters that much more believable. The acting was uniformly great, from the particularly nasty trio of invading brothers to the littlest child victim. The non-stop action keeps attention riveted to the screen...there wasn't one boring moment. The writing is innovative, non-formulaic. Family members you don't expect to die do, one of the bad guys turns out to be unexpectedly kind, and the youngest family member is surprisingly resourceful. If you want a terrific good vs. evil ride, full of suspense and colorful characterizations, this one's for you!
Haute tension (2003)
Finally...a great horror movie!
Tired of being disappointed in horror movies that promise so much and deliver so little? Do you want real suspense, gruesome effects and terrific acting? SEE THIS MOVIE! It's not perfect (the twist at the end gives a kind of huh? reaction at first), but it's real close to it. Cecile De France is a riveting young actress; rarely is terror conveyed so palpably. The writer/directors may have over-thought the plot a bit, but the movie is so overall good, they can be forgiven for it. On a low budget, but with high creativity and the use of a brilliant cinematographer, they have given true horror fans what they crave. BRAVO!
