Lightyear (2022)
Pixar's famous Brain Trust didn't do they work
Don't get me wrong, I had fun watching the movie, but when I started thinking about the plot afterwards, oh boy... Pixar is famous for not letting stories which doesn't make sense go into production, so how did they let this one pass?
So you go to investigate a passing by planet, but didn't they read the the space rangers regulations? You don't all personal landing the mothership. You leave it in orbit and go down in a small ship. We even know how it looks like! They also din't read the Turnip instruction manual. It clearly states the only hyper speed power cell on the ship is placed on the outer layer of the paper fragile hull. Engineers, go figure. You there's no spare, because it's really really super difficult to make one by combining four components, not that hard to find in unknown planets, but mixed in exact percentages rounded up. The proportions (but not the ingredients) are a secret which the small CPU of an AI robot can crack it in just 64 years. If only they had more staff and bigger computers to crack the problem before sending a ranger in a life risky flight. But then they smash the formula and cat AI robot maybe didn't have enough internal memory to store the four lines of the formula. And Buzz steals a ship breaking regulations, instead of arguing. Steals it again, go to hyper speed in a random direction, finds a giant ship with robots, becomes their boss Zurg, goes back in time to capture the power cell from himself...
If only they the years and resources to crack that formula again... Do I need to go on?
The whole attempt to make this Andy's favorite movie is appalling. And unnecessary. When I watched the first trailer I thought it was cool this real life Buzz idea, but when I saw Zurg in a later trailer I found it weird. Zurg is a funny looking sorta ridiculous toy villain, how do you mix it/him with real life Buzz? Oh, sure, let's make him and Buzz the same guy!
Oh, boy!
A Quiet Place (2018)
Entertainment on it best
It felt like reading a short story. A good one! The story it's tight; no explaining the past; no unnecessary intro with news broadcasts. And it's tense from the beginning, with that good stomach coldness that all thriller should give you.
And what about the science unacuracy and logic problems pointed out by other reviewers? Don't worry, they don't get in the way of the suspension of disbelief. The pace is just fast enough and the anxiety is just constant enough to prevent the audience from thinking about it. And later? We'll, after such a good entertaining experience, you won't care.
