Ad Astra (2019)
Slow and predictable
Movie feels like an Oscar bait. Brad Pitt is the only saving grace in the movie with a sincere act. The movie keeps meandering through space and your time via some stunning visual images and a predictable storyline.
The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors (2017)
Riveting documentary, must watch.
Two previous movies on the subject feel pale in comparison to this riveting and well documented mini series.
Typewriter (2019)
Hold your interest till the very end
An interesting Hindi horror/ mystery type series that will surely remind you of Stranger Things. However the similarities stop when it comes to acting and writing. The dirction is good and holds your interest till the very end when it feels like a bit of let down.
Still a good watch.
Stranger Things (2016)
Less stranger more 80s thing.
Loved the 3rd act of the series, somewhat better than season 2. This itself is worthy of something. Season 3 is brighter more colorful, more humor, less scary and certainly more musical.
The problem is only one. The story. The plot is thin and does not live up to the season 1 standard. However it is quite enjoyable specially for the 80s music and fun elements. A must binge for anyone.
The Lion King (2019)
Don't compare, just enjoy the encore.
I am a bit taken aback by all the negative criticism. I have watched, loved and lived the original while growing up. However this movie felt different. I was impressed by the CGI and the wonderful memories this film brought about.
I enjoyed the kids laughing all around me and the entire room clapped in the end. Go enjoy the movie with the new generation. Keep an open mind.
Barfi! (2012)
Dark subject made to glow with brilliant direction and acting.
What can you expect from a story about an autistic girl in love with a deaf and dumb boy? Serious tearjerker, i suppose. But this movie is not your regular Hindi movie melodrama.
Anurag Basu has used a la Charlie Chaplin, slap stick comedy to brilliant effect in depicting a rather serious subject. The movie is so smartly made that one does not feel that the void of its main protagonist being a mute. The movie is shot beautifully in Darjeeling and Kolkata. A visual treat.
The acting by Ranbir is outstanding. Talking with his expressions throughout the movie. Priyanka's role as an autistic girl is a revelation. she deserves rich praise as well. Ileana is a surprise package, looking so stunningly beautiful in Bengali attire with bright cotton saris.
Pritam's music in the movie is also very fresh and apt for the script. Songs are simple but effective.
The only drawback, if you nitpick, might be the fact that Anurag Basu tried too hard to make it into a suspense thriller, with story moving back and forth in time.
Overall an excellent movie for people who dare to watch good cinema.
