Friends (1994)
Goodnight Chandler Bing
I must've have rewatched these 10 series dozens of times since it first aired.
After hearing the devastating news this morning that Matthew Perry had passed away, I'm watching it with a new pair of slightly sadder eyes.
'Friends' got me through a sad and difficult childhood. Sitting down to watch the new episodes at 9pm every Friday on channel 4, was one of the only things I can remember my family did together with no arguments.
First watched as a 12 year old, not getting most of the jokes, but laughing (mostly at Chandler!) all the way through each episode ....and now watching as a 40 year old, understanding far too well all the troubles of love and work, and life and friendship.
What a brilliant show.
Ted Lasso: So Long, Farewell (2023)
A beautiful ending to Richmond's beautiful game
I'll start by saying I don't bother writing reviews on IMDB. I'll second that by stating I am not a football fan in any way, shape or form.
However, I needed a show to download onto my Mac when I moved house 6 weeks ago and had no internet or Sky for 2 weeks. On a recommendation I downloaded Ted.
I can honestly say that this is one of the best TV shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
Watching what at the beginning was almost a cartoonish portrayal of characters, to fully formed personalities whose lives and issues resonated with me (and all of us I'm sure) was sheer pleasure and joy.
In a world of entitlement, anger, frustration and doom, Ted and his team have reminded me that happiness and positivity are infectious. Without sounding overly saccharine sweet about it all, I've remembered to be nice to people again.
Quite an accolade for a TV show.
The Haunting of Hill House: The Bent-Neck Lady (2018)
Heartbreaking
This episode is amazing. A piece of art in fact.
The last scenes will leave you jarred for days. Tragic, thought provoking and horrific and one of the best things I've seen on TV for years.
