Sathru (2019)
Excellent thriller
A pretty good edge of the seat thriller shot really well. Casting could have been a bit better
Birbal Trilogy: Case 1 - Finding Vajramuni (2019)
Worth watching
A pretty good mystery movie. Could have been made as a bit faster screenplay by some smart editing. Hope to see it in the next part
Kida Poosari Magudi (2016)
Good screenplay & storytelling!
A different village story with a good screenplay. Apart from the stupid comedy scenes, the movie is good to watch.
Left Behind (2014)
Biggest mistake in movie making!
I should have read all the reviews in IMDB before I Watched the movie - if i had, i would have saved 2 hours!
De De Pyaar De (2019)
A different Romedy - good watch!
A sensitive storyline that has comedy, family and romance built in.
Ajay as the father, husband and lover does a wonderful job. Tabu does a great job as mom and wife.
Rakul takes the cake in this movie with her bubbly acting and dialogue delivery.
The movie has some foot tapping numbers and some really enjoyable comedy (you may want to watch with small children though!).
Madurai Veeran (2018)
A watchable village entertainer - after a while!
Apart from the similarity in name, this movie has nothing to do with the MGR starrer that was released ages ago.
A good storyline and screenplay sets this movie apart from the so-so village based movies that have been released so far. Some of the events like "jallikattu" have been used prudently used in the movie. The movie also takes on the issue of caste.
The director has handled the entire script in a very judicious manner, giving a watchable movie.
Samuthrakani does a fantastic job as usual.
Escape Room (2019)
Escape from this!
What was supposed to be a thriller movie, quickly became a run-of-the-mill predictable story with no twists or turns. The initial part of the movie (first 30 minutes or so) was a bit entertaining and also had all the right elements going on for a thriller movie. Then the storyline took a turn into a predictable mode with repetitive events.
Give this room an escape!
Searching (2018)
Bold new approach
This movie is a completely bold new approach to storytelling.
Can you make an entire movie cantered around a laptop screen? This movie does it. The entire movie, literally runs on a laptop screen (mostly on a MAC and sometimes on Windows).
The initial part of the movie was interesting and then the middle part of the movie was a bit dragging, but the movie picked up its tempo in the last 30 minutes. Overall, from a length perspective, the director could have shot this movie in lesser minutes so that the script could have run a bit more faster for such a thriller movie.
Overall, a very innovative approach to storytelling - great effort!
Kavalai Vendam (2016)
Light hearted Romedy
A really light hearted romedy (romantic comedy) with Kajal and Jeeva in the lead roles, supported by a huge sub cast. Film has really light moments where you can laugh aloud and enjoy. Film is completely shot in hilly regions and the cinematographer has used it to the film's advantage. Music is above average with a couple of good numbers. It seems like that the censor has muted quite a bit of dialogue - still, the movie has its own 'double meaning' dialogues quite often. Surprisingly, they are not very awkward and jell well with the movie flow and makes you laugh.
In summary, a good romedy entertainer.
Vellaipookal (2019)
A disappointing thriller
After reading some reviews online and offline, I watched this movie with great expectations. I should say that I was deeply disappointed. The whole movie was like watching an age old stage drama with lot of predictability. Cinematography was pleasing, music was so-so and the screenplay was just below average. Vivek has done a decent job and sometimes went overboard than what was required. Supporting cast like Charlie and Pooja were a burden than support.
U-Turn (2018)
A must watch, well made movie!
I started watching this movie without any expectations, regarding its genre or the ordinary star cast (except for Samantha), or its Director.
What say, the movie was captivating right from the first frame when the credits started appearing. The movie has a different theme with a subtle, yet powerful message for the audience.
The cast is completely apt for the movie with Sam carrying most of the movie on her shoulders. She is already a worthy competition to the #1 spot in Tamil, replacing Nayanthara from her mantle. All the supporting cast have done a great job.
Though some of the scenes in the movie may be criticised by the so called critics, so what? We have seen worse in Hollywood and everyone seem to accept them!
Overall, a highly recommended movie!
Savarakathi (2018)
An excellent cast with a wasted plot
The movies has all the right male lead actors doing justice to their roles. However, the plot is so bad that the entire casting falls apart. The director is pretty much confused about imbibing black humour into the gangster storyline trying to make events look light. That really is a pathetic attempt. The heroine's role reminds Saranya's acting a lot - it looks like the heroine is just imitating her type of acting in alll the scenes.
If you have two hours to spare and nothing else to do, watch this movie - else, ......
