Dragon's Dogma: Wrath (2020)
Questionable quality and wrong target audience
Having watched the first episode (since not more has aired during this time) I do not plan to watch more of this series. The animation quality is borderline poor, the plot feels quite generic and the voice actor choices, albeit not strictly bad, are ill fitted in my opinion. Can't say I enjoy the character personalities that much either. This series could've been a hit with the kids, but contains unfortunately some mature content. The Netflix front page sneak peak caught my attention, but sadly I must rate the first episode of this series, and the premise it builds, a swing and a miss.
Ultraman (2019)
Far from a master piece, but could be worse
Watched two episodes after which I didn't feel like watching more. The protagonist has the most generic, cookie-cutter look you could imagine for an anime series. The storyline felt quite generic as well, but it wasn't straight out bad, so I'm sure any hardcore anime fan will appreciate this series. The animation is also good, although it's the kind of 3D animation style that will put off some people.
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for that superb 1 in 100 anime series.
The Expanse: Intransigence (2018)
Slowest episode of the season, but still pretty good
Season 3 has in my opinion been the best season so far. This episode wasn't bad but I got for the first time a feeling that they were stretching out events. After entering the ring at the end of the last episode, I was truly looking forward for things to start escalating and getting more information about what the protomolecule is and what objective it has.
The episode does however reveal what happened to Roci after entering the ring and where they're headed in the next episode. I just wish they would've had Miller appear at the start of the episode, directing them to the weird planet thing and getting some decent glimpses regarding what it is.
I hope and strongly expect for more things to happen in the next episode, because a sci-fi story of this caliber does not deserve any filler time.
7/10
Altered Carbon (2018)
An overall solid package with an unpolished script
Altered Carbon delivers overall a high-end viewer experience, with very impressive CGI, solid acting, and an intriguing, highly inviting, spiritual scifi-world which begs for further exploration in another season.
The series isn't however without fault. The script feels at times rushed, probably due to it being crammed with so much content. Some character relationships develop too fast, leading to love, loyalty and hate not feeling believable at all times. This is in my opinion the greatest weakness of this series. Since spirituality and existentialism are core themes for the series, it should be especially important to emphasize believable emotional bonds.
Highly looking forward to the next season!
Samurai Jack: Episode XCIV (2017)
One of the best episodes of Samurai Jack ever
Everything about this episode was just perfect. The story was intense and intriguing, promising a great continuation on what we've seen so far. The visuals were astonishing - every scene was an artistic masterpiece, playing masterfully with contrasts, shadows and camera angles. The fight scenes were also superb.
You truly get pulled in to the episode and lose track of time. This is what Samurai Jack is about! Easy 10/10
The Night Of (2016)
Captivating but extremely frustrating
I watched the first episode of "The Night Of" and although the series promises an interesting story and has a high production quality, I found it extremely annoying how blatantly stupid and irrational the protagonist, Nazir is made.
After Nazir wakes up and finds the girl he spent the night with murdered in cold blood, his first reaction is not to call the cops but flee. I guess this is an acceptable reaction if you're in shock, but it doesn't end here. Once outside the girls house he realizes he forgot his jacket inside and breaks back into the apartment. By now it should be obvious that he can't avoid involving cops to the situation, but no... He drives away, still high on the drugs he took with the girl, and gets caught by a patrolling police car unit.
Even while being accused for DUI, with a bloody knife in his breast pocket does he say nothing. He doesn't say anything even when the police unit that caught him stops at the crime scene with the dead girl. Not even on the police station, while having his body being searched, does he mention that he is carrying a bloody knife. When the cops find the knife in his breast pocket he tries to flee from the police station although he's surrounded by several cops. He isn't even able to cooperate during the police interrogation. Like... come on.
The stupidity that the protagonist shows is enough on its own to not make me watch more of this series.
