Gakkou no kaidan: Noroi no kotodama (2014)
The lack of power in dialogue.
The premise of "Kotodama" seems interesting enough; mysterious things begin to happen to a group of friends, and these paranormal events seem to be linked to the class of 1988.
In truth, Kotodama tries to intertwine different storylines into one setting, but it lacks any continuity or substance beyond the premise. From beginning to end, the storyline seems to be in "auto pilot" mode and doesn't go anywhere, even the resolution is lacklustre and poorly done.
The film is devoid of effective scares or atmosphere. However, props to the director for filming a horror film during daytime, in all of its entirety.
Skip it, there's many Japanese Horror films worth a view, Kotodama isn't one of them.
Gamgi (2013)
Entertaining, but incredibly dumb and xenophobic.
As you ALREADY are aware of, "The Flu" is a South Korean flick about a epidemic of avian flu, and the struggle of dealing with such virus.
As a disaster movie; Flu holds its own with a well paced structure, it is never boring. However, some of the themes featured in this film are downright xenophobic, while the script is plagued with plot devices that ruin the entire storyline.
As it is to be expected, illegal immigrants are to blame for the epidemic (although the locals are incredibly stupid and panic at the slightest sigh of discomfort). Later on when the cliche political struggles take center stage, foreigners are to blame for the unorganized methods in which the virus has been dealt with, and their interest lies in international affairs more so than the well being of Korean citizens. But regardless of these themes and how annoying they are, what renders the movie annoying and downright frustrating, is the abuse of plot devices that are meant to extend the cheap attempts at creating some sort of narrative and cheap, forced scenes meant to pull the heartstrings.
Suspension of disbelief is required to follow the storyline and not let it ruin the movie itself; as our main characters are never in any real danger and there is always someone or something waiting to save them. However, the one character who SHOULD matter the most, is disposed of as soon as he is in a precarious situation (hint: he's foreign), while the annoying trio of heroes walks through any situation and remain unscathed.
Also, the movie states how the virus is transmitted and it's symptoms, but at a certain point of the final act, it throws those rules out of the window in order to facilitate more of these cheap "emotional" scenes. The infected suddenly forget to cough even though that is the first and most prominent symptom, while the healthy completely disregard wearing any masks even though they've been trying to protect themselves from the virus. And more importantly; our hero is in direct contact with the infected, he breaths the same oxygen, people cough in his face, is in contact with their blood, and even touches an infected person yet he never develops any symptoms whatsoever.
If you put all of those ridiculous plot devices aside, there is a decently entertaining movie somewhere in here.
Don't Breathe (2016)
Suspenseful, entertaining, frustrating, and dumb at times.
This little horror flick has its moments, it successfully creates a suspenseful atmosphere and was well shot, with some masterful camera work.
However, the storyline was barebones yet cluttered. Too much was set to accomplish, when less could've been more. Trying to force morally ambiguous decisions onto the viewer, and failed attempts at character development and moments that were meant to make the viewer "sympathize" with the "heroine".
The progression was so frustrating, because we're expected to sympathize with this woman and her reasons behind theft, yet she's as hypocritical as any other villain, and even worse; she does NOTHING but be a burden to the other characters. Also, we were given an ambiguous ending in which we're supposed to feel relieved that she survived and was able to fulfil her "relatable and human" goals, when she didn't think twice about stealing from a blind man, begging for her life after she tried to kill him and assaults him again, oh and did I mention that she was never in any real danger?
These writers need to have a look at the South Korean film "The Chaser", to see how a "morally ambiguous" film should be done.
Gongpo taxi (2000)
Ummmm... yeah,,,
OK, i'll be honest. I wasn't exited at all for this film, i got it because it came in DVD lot, so it was the first one i saw, from the lot.
Terror Taxi, while the movie names itself "Ghost Taxi", is one weird experience. Bizarre? maybe.
First of all, the plot seems taken out of an anime or cartoon, the characters are likable, the effects are 'ok' and the acting seemed decent to me. Now the plot... My Lord, it has holes everywhere, you never get to know the reason behind some actions, you don't get to know much about each character's (or main character) background. But well, i think we don't need it.
This review might be shallow, but so as the movie.
Terror Taxi is like a hybrid between comedy, action and thriller. It can be funny sometimes, and as other review stated: Okay is the best going on in the movie.. And Jung Jae-Young, handsome!!
I'll give a 7 out of 10, because it made me laugh and kept my attention. Sometime many other "weird" movies have tried to, but failed.
Galaxy Angel (2000)
Galaxy Bang Bang!!
Galay Angel is a wonderful anime series.
Angel Squad members, Ranpha and Forte are on a mission when they meet Milfeulle, a special girl with 'good luck', since that moment everything starts as it should. As the Angel Squad they are on a mission to find the 'lost technology' and so the adventure goes. The plot itself can be slow even if the show only last 16min per episode.
Galaxy Angel is full of cute 'Digi Charat'-like animations and characters, all in cute and colorful environments where the Angel Squad finds something to get in trouble, creating mostly hilarious situations that give every character a good development.
While Galaxy Angel is a short anime, it is a winner, the characters are likable as you expect in a 'cute' anime like it, everything is colorful and funny. Galaxy Angel manages to keep the plot going even when you think it is non existent. Join Milfeulle, Vanilla, Mint, Ranpha and Forte in their adventures and you'll see what i'm talking about.
9 out of 10!
White Chicks (2004)
Hey Gurl!
This is about Black people, they know how to make everyone laugh.
Not being racist, but the jokes about white girls and black ghetto girls are the thing! This is quite funny, if you wanna watch it, cable T.V broadcast it every week! Go ahead!
Acting was OK, this girl "Gina" and her ghetto friend made laugh real loud. Quote "Keasha? Call Nay Nay and Laquanda, this bitches are other sh*t".
Ghetto girls have it! The 'yo momma jokes' were great, and that big dude Latrelle... he made me LOL!
Well, now getting serious and left those ghetto jokes, overall this movie is quite funny, you can watch it 2 times and still laugh...
Gosa 2 (2010)
Death Bell 2
"Death Bell 2"... I like it, but still... it lacks to deliver like the first one did, i'm glad the series stood in the school drama, this time it involves a female ghost, not like the first one which wasn't a ghost story... this is one was it, but with slasher and gore elements, love the way the died....
Plot: Good... still didn't made that sense of the first one Acting: Good... for most of the cast, just one guy who didn't work well his role.. Direction: Average, most of the film was really dark...
I really like it, but it has some elements that made me hate it at the same time hate/love relationship! There were few characters, typical bully's who think they are the best thing that ever happened to the world, guys who think they are 'cool' and slutty girls... freaking spoiled people, yes... i don't like that kind of people, i used to pick on them and mind *uck them in middle/high school... well back to the movie, the main characters is one of those you would like to kill and when she's about to die... someone saves her bah... well she's not even the main role, her 'sister' has it, like the ending, and also at the credits shows an extra scene or alternative ending, good idea.
A little bit confusing, by the fact it's really dark you can't see faces...
7 out of 10...
Hellbreeder (2004)
OK... What was that?
This movie known as "Hellbreader" IS THE WORST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN. Is this even a movie? It felt like it is 4 hours long, it is the same after the same and the same and the same. I bout it expecting some laughs... The cover of the DVD is funny, an ugly and funny clown smiling and with the words "Ja,Ja.Ja" on the upper corner, and yeah, there's something funny, the main character is not only boring and annoying, but her family is calling her some quite good nicknames... GREAT! It made me laugh for the fact that is SO boring and stupid, and how i was so silly to buy it... AVOID IT! (Unless you wanna hurt somebody, yes IT HURTS your eyes).
Desert of Death (2006)
Uh... what?
Well my mom boughed this thing for 8 Ukrainian money, because IMDb doesn't let me writhe the name of it... which is less than an American dollar... what could i expect? Of course a cheesy movie, and yeah i was right. This was stupid since the beginning to the end, bad acting, poor acting, fake acting... did i say bad acting? They seem to be reading instead of acting! Too much cheesy scenes, all predictable, just fool..!
Characters: Tipical easy girls but ugly. Foolis guys with abs, and the director is the hero right here, the wonder woman is fat and poor acting girl. Plot? So obvious and stupid. The end? WTF?!!
I'm happy at least it makes my collection bigger... even if i wont watch it again in my whole life.
AWFUL!
Gusha no bindume (2004)
Woah!
Hellevator... is quite simple, the whole movie could go good and end in 45 minutes as it goes, but 'enough' is not enough here and It goes on. Probably it is some source of hard to watch, you gotta be ready for a 60 minutes one room only movie. I was expecting something else, but it went great. The ending was the best, it actually makes you think about all you saw in the 90 minutes.
Acting was cool, very good acting. Characters are 'original' you can hate them if you want, it looks like they want you hate them. And the main character, i felt like i was going to go wild if she kept her persona, she's annoying.
Overall Hellevator was kind of a letdown to me, but STILL is good film i would recommend.

Seuseung-ui eunhye (2006)
Beautiful Slasher
Well, first of all. Bloody Reunion is must watch film for slasher fans. Second of all, don't believe in all the bad criticism here at IMDb. As you will see, bad reviews are from north Americans who are really fool and can't get a movie if it hasn't sex, the women's naked body or athletic guys doing shirtless scenes. Of course there's nothing of that here.
No here we go... Bloody Reunion starts with a crime scene, that is huge spoiler for what's about to come. Then we see the 'meeting'. You know something is wrong with this, but still watch it until the end. You'll be shocked!
For me this film was a slow paced at the beginning, as it goes on, the pace gets faster and you just don't get bored. Nice scary scenes, nice gore scenes, a simple plot made into a great story of revenge.
Overall Bloody Reunion is beautiful masterpiece of it's genre, as usual in the amazing Asian horror, twist are here to be expected and they keep you waiting for what's gonna happen. And the ending took a couple of tears from me!.
9 out of 10 The best: Ending. The worst: Too much blood.
Shibuya kaidan (2004)
Shibuya Kaidan!
A low budget flick which delivers as a 'whole'. This version has BOTH Shibuya kaidan 1 and Shibuya Kaidan 2.
Eat your vegetables and you'll get your desserv! That's right, the first part is quite boring or hard to watch due the direction, acting and action on it. The ending is the start of Shibuya Kaidan 2 (yes). The second part, is incredibly good. Nice scares, acting gets better and it delivers a great horror movie. I gotta say i got shocked with it, i wasn't expecting that good after seeing the first part (wich is good but not as the sequel).
SPOILER: Did Sadako had a child? Just kidding. "Sat-Chan" as they call the ghost here, is probably on the league of Sadako and Kayako from Ringu and Ju-On. Sat-Chan is really creepy, and she's a child!!
Gotta see it to believe it.
Sin-de-rel-la (2006)
A Beautiful Asian Creepy Film
Cinderella is pretty much a brain breaker, like in others terror Asian films. It is creepy but beautiful at the same time.
Women take the whole plot here, it's all about women. That could be the worst of the film, but it is actually the best. A message is there, it is just a matter of time (until the last minutes) to understand it. I would say that this Cinderella movie has enough plot to make one of those 3 months t.v novels. It is good, really good. It actually makes you think about what are you watching, NOT Recommended for "AMERICANIZED" people.
Probably we'll see an American remake of this well-done jewel.
