The Break-Up (2006)

So much better than I remembered
19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I remembered watching this movie when it came out and liking it. Not sure why, being a 13 year old kid who had never been in a committed relationship (obviously). That memory is the one that pushed me to watch it tonight, 15 years older and with a lot more experience in life.

I think this film is marvelous. I absolutely don't understand why it has a score of 5.9...maybe it's the realness and sour felling it leaves you with.

This movies tells, in a very realistic way may I add, the struggles a relationship goes through and the stupid decisions people make trying to attempt to either stay in a relationship or move on past it. Vaughn and Aniston are amazing. They have great chemistry and they are one of the key elements in making this movie so good and real.

The ending is my favorite part. Loved the fact that they didn't take de quick lane of fixing one hour and a half of conflicts in the last 5 minutes but actually allowed their characters to develop in the most natural way and, unexpectedly, show how a lot of real relationships end.

9/10

It's definitely not for everyone.

I am going to be completely transparent, I'm not sure why I like this show so much.

The protagonists are completely unlikeable but I feel that's what can make them relatable. I have been Hanna, Marnie, Jessa and Soshanna in different times of my live. Never at the same time, thank God.

All of them are spoiled and entitled and at any given point Lena tried to make them perfect. They're very far from that.

I've seen it three times. So, yeah.

I don't think of this movie as an horror movie in any way. Yes, it is bloody but I actually laught a lot while watching it. The plot is silly but it keeps you entertained and I believe the character's arcs are actually really well made. Plus, the music is awsome throught the whole film.

I found it really enjoyable.

I'm going to start by saying that, even though I've watched all the Star Wars movies, I'm not a die-hard fan and I have a difficult time remembering who's who sometimes.

Having said that I really enjoyed this movie. It had me crying more than once, I was at the edge of my seat with the action scenes and I was swept off my feet with the whole Rey/Ben story.

If you're feeling nostalgic of your adolescence, you should watch this

I watched this when I was around 13 years old and I thought it was Oscar-worthy (which obviously it isn't) but it has all the key ingredients for a great teenage movie. The mean girls, the handsome guy, the dork friends and brothers, the prom, everything. So if you find yourself a Friday night without plans and feeling like watching something to reminisce on your teenage years, this is the movie to watch. Otherwise, don't.

Just no.

I have to start this review stating that I didn't want to watch this movie 'cause I knew I was going to cry my eyes out - I cried even watching the trailer - and, indeed, I did cry for the great majority of it. Mostly by being mad and very seldom for being touched or moved.

90% of the movie I was really annoyed by the human characters. I didn't feel connected nor had empathy for any of them.

Literally, the best performance is done by - the best character - a CGI elephant. The whole movie relays completelly on the fact it looks extremely cute.

So, if you want to watch a sad story with mediocre acting and a cute elephant, go on and see this movie. But if you want to spare yourself from almost two hours of non stop crying and annoyment, skip it.
